Aggressive Discounting Solves Nothing, Says Daimler’s Listosella

According to some top Daimler Trucks officials, aggressive discounting is not going to solve anything, even though it is a common reactionary measure by competitors. “This affects the resale value of trucks and fleet owners will endure asset losses,” said Daimler India Commercial Vehicles CEO and Managing Director Marc Llistosella. He added that buyers could get used to the discounts too much and affect long-term value. This doesn’t just involve the retail prices of the units, but also the value of the truck brands. Diamler Partner Fuso Posts 18% Sales Growth

  In an industry where low single-digit sales bumps are trumpeted as significant gains, Fuso’s 18% sales growth cannot be described as anything less than stellar. Daimler’s Asian commercial vehicle subsidiary posted these figures as a result of selling 174,600 commercial vehicles last year. Fuso is planning 40 market launches this year to help propel it towards its “Fuso 2015” goal of selling 200,000 vehicles annually. Mercedes-Benz Arocs World Premiere Rounds Out Heavy-Duty Truck Range

The Mercedes-Benz Arocs, the third model in the automaker’s heavy-duty construction vehicle lineup, just had its world premiere in Munich last January 28, rounding out a diverse complement of Euro VI trucks that already had the Actros and the Antos. The Arocs is set to be gradually introduced into the European market starting May of this year. 350 Jobs in North America will be Made Available by Daimler

Daimler Trucks North America’s production will create more jobs, as the Western Star trucks, which are being built in Portland, Oregon is on the ramp. It will add a second shift which creates about 350 new jobs by the end of next year. That will be a fifty percent increase of production workers.
