Porpoising Adds to Mercedes F1 Woes This Season

If you’re a fan of Formula One racing, then you’ve probably been following the Mercedes F1 team closely this year. After all, they have won the drivers’ championship from 2014 to 2020 and the constructors’ championship since 2014. But things have appeared to be taking turn for the worse for them this 2022 season. In fact, they are currently in third place in the standings behind Ferrari and Red Bull Racing. Moreover, their drivers, George Russel and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, are struggling in fourth and sixth, respectively, in the drivers’ standings. Lewis Hamilton bags the win at the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2018. The victory takes him to the lead in the drivers’ rankings. After Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel got the pole position in the qualifying last Saturday, it looked like he was poised to emerge triumphant again. However, the chaos that unfolded during the race allowed Hamilton to take the lead all the way to the finish line. All hell broke loose from start to finish that eventually saw the two Red Bull cars whack each other at Lap 40, which reportedly made their boss Christian Horner furious. Valtteri Bottas takes second at Azerbaijan GP

The Azerbaijan GP was certainly a very wild and chaotic race. Valtteri Bottas drove his Mercedes to second place right at the last possible moment heading into the chequered flag, ahead of Lance Stroll’s Williams car and behind the race winner, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo. Bottas went behind Stroll’s slipstream at the final straight and overtook just ahead of the chequered flag. It was a fitting finish to the very wild race which saw yellow flags, a red flag, and a lot of contact between cars. It was surely disappointing to lose second place for Stroll, but Williams can’t be that sad about achieving the team’s first podium this season…. Continue Reading »
