The Mercedes-Benz Unimog is the Off-roader of the Year 2009

For the fifth time in succession, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog has been voted the best off-road vehicle of the year in the “special-purpose vehicles” category by readers of the special-interest magazine OFF ROAD. The award was made on the basis of a vote covering vehicles in eight categories in the December edition of this venerable Munich-based off-roader magazine. The Unimog won first place in the special-purpose category with an outstanding 42.3 % of the votes.

Mercedes-Benz is Germany’s most popular commercial vehicle brand

While Audi is working on ridiculing the competition to increase its brand reputation, Mercedes is winning awards. Mercedes-Benz is Germany’s most popular commercial vehicle brand. This is the finding of an Emnid study commissioned by the weekly specialist magazine Verkehrs-Rundschau. In the “Verkehrs-Rundschau Image-Ranking 2009” the opinion research institute investigated for the fourth year the perception of the leading commercial vehicle brands. Mercedes-Benz took first place in three of the seven categories: Trucks, Vans and the category Hire/Leasing.

Metrobus project in Istanbul wins a USA award

The Metrobus project of the Istanbul administration authority was recently given an award during the presentation of the Sustainable Transport Awards in Washington D.C. This award is presented to projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the quality of life in the inner areas of major cities worldwide. The Mercedes-Benz CapaCity impressively demonstrates the attractiveness and cost-effectiveness of the bus as a transport system. As a high-capacity vehicle not restricted to on-rail operation, it combines the advantages of a bus, i.e. great flexibility and high cost-effectiveness, with attributes of a tram system such as a high passenger capacity.

Daimler AG receives award for its sustainable commitment to innovation

Daimler AG received last Saturday a special award for its commitment to innovation, during the presentation of the “29th German Industry Innovation Award”. This “Decade Award” is only presented every ten years, in recognition of sustainable and successful commitment to concerted innovation strategies. From more than 360 applications submitted by over 300 companies, a jury of experts from industry, science and politics chose Daimler AG. The prize is awarded by the Wirtschaftsclub Rhein-Main e.V. in Frankfurt/Main and the business magazine Wirtschaftswoche, Düsseldorf.

Daimler AG receives “Yellow Angel” award for lithium-ion technology

The ADAC (German Automobile Association) has awarded its “Gelber Engel 2009” (Yellow Angel) to Daimler AG and its systems partner Continental in the Innovation & Environment category. Daimler was selected for the award by Europe’s largest automobile club in recognition of its lithium-ion battery, the first such battery ever to be successfully integrated into a production passenger car. The Mercedes-Benz S 400 BlueHYBRID featuring this pioneering technology will have its market launch in summer 2009.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class gets top safety marks from IIHS

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States has named the Mercedes-Benz C-Class one of its Top Safety Picks for 2009 – the best reason to buy in terms of safety. The C-Class achieved good ratings in all the safety criteria which were examined. In the latest assessments, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class was subjected to front and side crash tests. The safety specialists in the US also evaluated protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. For all three criteria, the C-Class was awarded top marks.

Mercedes-Benz wins two golds and a silver at the ADAM and EVA Awards

Mercedes-Benz was honoured last Friday with two golds at the ADAM and EVA Awards. MB won the coveted EVA Award in gold in the category “Corporate Events” for the world premiere of the CLC Sports Coupe at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. In the “XXL over 1,500 m2” category, the “Road to the Future” trade fair stand at the IAA 2007 received a gold ADAM, a coveted German trade fair communications award.
