It passed by Volvo and MAN and picked up passengers from their offices. On the occasion of the International Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover, a panel of experts has elected the new Mercedes-Benz Actros “Truck of the Year 2009”. The specialist journalists from 21 European countries paid tribute to the enhanced economy, environmental compatibility, safety and comfort afforded by the innovative technology. With the Mercedes PowerShift 2 automated transmissions installed as standard in the road vehicles, truck drivers will find their daily lives made even easier. According to the findings of development engineers at Mercedes-Benz following a fleet test conducted with a total of 1,000 Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer in 2005/2006, half of the serious truck accidents could be prevented. For the purposes of the trial, half of the trucks were equipped with the Lane Assistant, proximity control and stability control assistance systems. The number of accidents for the vehicles fitted with the safety package was shown to be halved compared to the 500 trailer with a conventional specification; furthermore, where an accident did occur, the cost of the damage was 90% lower.
