Mercedes F1 Boss Toto Wolff Praises Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc

Mercedes F1 Team Principal and CEO Toto Wolff recently praised Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for his “sportsmanlike behavior” at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Their respective teams headed to the race with only a four-point deficit between them in the Constructors and the venue proved to be the deciding factor of which group will emerge as runner-up in the rankings. The last moments of the Yas Marina race saw Charles Leclerc allow Red Bull’s Sergio Perez to overtake him, knowing the latter was carrying a five-second penalty and doing so would let him use DRS to gun for the finish with enough time gap between George Russell. This would still make… Continue Reading »

Bottas cruises to Abu Dhabi GP win to close 2017 F1 season; Hamilton finishes 2nd

Valtteri Bottas had an anticlimactic win in an anticlimactic race, cruising comfortably from pole position to take the victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to close out the 2017 F1 season. The Finn had no problems closing this one out. Bottas finished 3.899 seconds ahead of teammate and champion Lewis Hamilton, who finished in second place. It was only the fourth 1-2 finish for Mercedes this season. t was also a much-needed victory for Bottas. He went through a relatively bad second half of the season that saw him post two retirements. He was renewed by the team for 2018, so it must be a good feeling to give the… Continue Reading »

Rosberg is 2016 F1 champion

Nico Rosberg did not win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix… but he didn’t need to. His Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton needed a miracle to overcome Rosberg’s lead in the points, and while Hamilton took the race win, Rosberg took second place, which was more than enough to become the 2016 F1 champion. This is Rosberg’s first F1 championship, having spent 11 seasons and accomplishing 206 starts so far in his F1 career. He capitalized on a hot start, winning the first four races of the season and scoring just enough points to keep Hamilton’s charge at bay. He became F1 champion 34 years after his father, Keke Rosberg, accomplished the… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg takes pole, Lewis in P2 for Abu Dhabi GP

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the final race of the 2015 Formula One season, and Mercedes was true to form in qualifying. Nico Rosberg grabbed pole position ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton, giving the team a season record 15th front-row lockout. There’s really nothing left to play for for these two Mercedes drivers. The team clinched the constructors title in what seems like ages ago, and it’s been a few races since Hamilton was crowned 2015 champion. What’s left to see is if the team can surpass last season’s points tally — something that can only be done with a 1-2 finish at the race. The pole is Rosberg’s seventh of the… Continue Reading »

Abu Dhabi GP: Rosberg takes pole, sets up winner-take-all race against Mercedes teammate Hamilton

The battle for the 2014 drivers’ championship is going down the wire. Nico Rosberg took pole position in qualifying for the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race in the F1 season calendar that’s worth double the championship points. His Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton qualified into P2, making this the eighth straight front-row lockout by the Silver Arrows team and setting up a final battle that will determine the top driver this season. Apart from that, this result means that a Mercedes driver won the pole position in 18 out of the 19 races in the season, and the team has also secured the front row 12 times in total. On another note, Mercedes power… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg P8, Schumacher P14 as Hamilton Clinches Pole

Mercedes was able to get a decent result in the qualifying for the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with Nico Rosberg qualifying at P8 and Michael Schumacher at P14 on the starting grid. Pole position went to McLaren-Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who edged out the two Red Bulls by a considerable margin. “Qualifying worked out well for us today as P8 was our target and we were able to achieve that position,” said Rosberg, whose lone run on the option tires during Q3 allowed him to clinch P8. “I’m ahead of a Ferrari and a Lotus so that’s a good step, and we have made some improvements with our set-up… Continue Reading »
