Hamilton claims 50th career win at US GP; Rosberg second for Mercedes 1-2

Lewis Hamilton managed to gain back some ground in the race for the 2016 F1 drivers championship. The Mercedes driver took the win at the US GP over teammate Nico Rosberg and managed to climb to within 26 points of the lead, with three races left in the season. It was a smooth win for Hamilton, all the way from pole position. The US GP marked the British driver’s 50th career victory, after earning his 58th pole position earlier in the weekend. This also happens to the 101st podium finish of Hamiton’s career. Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull Racing rounded out the podium finishers. He lost the chance to challenge for at least… Continue Reading »

F1: Hamilton, Rosberg could face suspensions for future collisions

Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are locked in a tight battle for the 2016 Formula One driver’s championship, and it doesn’t help one bit that they are teammates. Competition between the two have led to some ugly crashes and unnecessary contact in the past, and now the two could face fines or even suspensions from Mercedes if they are to collide in a race again. This is seen as a way for the team to avoid actually issuing team orders. With contact between the Mercedes cars in three out of the past five outings, team officials are now forced to act to prevent excessive competition between their drivers from sabotaging their… Continue Reading »

Hamilton wins 2016 Austrain GP; Rosberg finishes 4th for Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton took home the victory at the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix, fending off Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. He has now won his third race out of the last four, cutting into the points lead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg once again. At the final lap, Rosberg was still actually in a position to win until he ran wide as he exited from turn 1. Hamilton pounced at the opportunity, but not after the two cars made contact. Rosberg had sparks coming out of his Mercedes, and he was visibly slowed down. Lewis passed him soon after and went on to the chequered flag. Rosberg was slapped with a 10-second penalty… Continue Reading »

F1: Hamilton holds off Vettel to win Canadian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton prevailed for the second straight race, taking a relatively hard-fought victory at the 2016 Canadian Grand Prix after fending off the vastly improved Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel. Vettel took the lead with a great start to the race from P3. He went past the two Mercedes, who had a bit of contact exiting turn 1, with Nico Rosberg forced to go to the grass and Hamilton aggressively defending the inside. Hamilton said he thought the start would be ‘a breeze’ after a perfect practice start. “But when it came around for real it felt like I was going nowhere, so I need to figure out what happened there,” Hamilton said. “I… Continue Reading »

F1: Hamilton finally wins one in Monaco

Lewis Hamilton finally managed to win a race in the 2016 Formula One season, with a solid victory ahead of Daniel Ricciardo at the Monaco Grand Prix. This was an exceptionally important outing for Hamilton after his fateful crash with teammate Nico Rosberg at the opening lap of the previous race. Hamilton was able to hold on to the first spot thanks in part to a pit stop blunder by Red Bull in lap 33, with the pit crew apparently not ready to receive Ricciardo and thus costing the driver a considerable amount of time. The other Mercedes car of Nico Rosberg, who was earlier ordered to let Hamilton pass through, could… Continue Reading »

F1: Mercedes’ Rosberg wins Bahrain Grand Prix

Nico Rosberg has now won five straight GPs, including the first two in the 2016 Formula One season. The Mercedes driver took the chequered flag comfortably, with a 10-second lead over second-placer Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari. Meanwhile, defending champion took the final podium slot 20 seconds behind the red car. As Rosberg had predicted, Hamilton was not really able to capitalize on his pole position. He dropped all the way to P9 after getting tangled with the Williams of Valtteri Bottas right on turn 1. While he fought valiantly to recover enough and get third, the damage was too much to overcome and Rosberg coasted all the way to the race win…. Continue Reading »

Mercedes swaps crew personnel for Rosberg and Hamilton

In a move that is expected to help the team, Mercedes has swapped around several members of its drivers’ crew personnel. There are several differences between the Silver Arrow cars this season. The decision was made by the team to swap number one mechanics for 2016. New personnel turnover also paved the way for other swaps. There are no changes to the engineering personnel, however. Nico Rosberg praised the moves, saying that it can only help both drivers. “It’s good for the wider strength of the team to move people around and not have them become focused on a single car or driver,” said the German, who has come in second… Continue Reading »
