Mercedes caps 2015 F1 season with 1-2 finish

The Mercedes team capped off an immensely successful 2015 Formula One season by taking a 1-2 finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg completed his hat trick, taking the race win ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton. The team surpassed its points tally from last year by 2 points, finishing with a whopping 703. Rosberg made good use of his sixth straight pole qualification, converting it into his third straight race win and sixth overall for the season. This is Mercedes’ 12th overall 1-2 finish this season, a fitting end to an otherwise anticlimactic final leg. The next constructor, rival Ferrari, finished with 428, bolstered by Kimi Raikkonen taking… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg takes pole, Lewis in P2 for Abu Dhabi GP

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the final race of the 2015 Formula One season, and Mercedes was true to form in qualifying. Nico Rosberg grabbed pole position ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton, giving the team a season record 15th front-row lockout. There’s really nothing left to play for for these two Mercedes drivers. The team clinched the constructors title in what seems like ages ago, and it’s been a few races since Hamilton was crowned 2015 champion. What’s left to see is if the team can surpass last season’s points tally — something that can only be done with a 1-2 finish at the race. The pole is Rosberg’s seventh of the… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg wins 2015 Mexican GP; Mercedes gets 10th 1-2 finish of season

There may have been no point to the race, with the titles all decided already, but Nico Rosberg brought his A game nonetheless. The Mercedes F1 driver took home the trophy in the first Mexican Grand Prix in 23 years, winning the race from pole position while topping teammate and recently crowned Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton. The win gives the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team its tenth 1-2 finish of the season. It is Rosberg’s fourth victory this season and 12th in his career, and he also set the fastest lap during the race. More importantly, Rosberg manages to get back second place from Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel–who was unable to finish the race… Continue Reading »

Mexico GP qualifying: Nico Rosberg heads Mercedes front-row lockout

There’s nothing left to play for, but it’s clear that Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton are still going for victories. The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 drivers managed their 13th front-row lockout of the season, with Rosberg getting pole position for the 2015 Mexican Grand Prix. This is Rosberg’s fifth pole of the season, and his fourth straight. Here’s an interesting stat: out of his last 10 pole positions dating back to last year, Rosberg had only been able to steer two of those to a race win. In the last race, where Hamilton clinched his latest of three driver’s titles, Rosberg led late but made a mistake that allowed… Continue Reading »

Lewis Hamilton bags US GP win and 2015 F1 driver’s championship

The 2015 United States Grand Prix was not short on action and drama, even after only 12 cars managed to survive the tough wet conditions at the Circuit  of the Americas in Austin, Texas. In the end, though, Lewis Hamilton emerged victorious–both in the race and in claiming his second-straight Formula One driver’s championship. Hamilton also wins his third overall title, making him only the second British driver to win three. This will sting for Nico Rosberg, as he was smelling victory near the end but let the lead slip. Rosberg finished in P2, while Sebastian Vettel battled throughout the race and took the last podium spot. By lap 47’s restart,… Continue Reading »

F1: Mercedes struggles in Singapore GP qualifying

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team finds itself in unfamiliar territory after Ferrari and Red Bull made their marks in qualifying for the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix held in the city-state’s Marina Bay Street Circuit. Lewis Hamilton, who had gotten used to getting pole positions this year, had to settle for P5 when the night race starts tomorrow. P6 went to Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg. Taking pole this time out is Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Joining him on the front row is Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull Racing. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen qualified at P3 while the other Red Bull car driven by Daniil Kvyat went fourth. The difference between Kvyat’s and Hamilton’s… Continue Reading »

Lewis Hamilton cruises to Canadian GP victory as Mercedes clinches another one-two finish

Looks like Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Lewis Hamilton got over his Monaco heartbreak easily. He drove as well as he could have at the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend on his way to a race win from pole position, ahead of the fourth Mercedes one-two finish of the season. Hamilton finished  a comfortable 2.285 seconds ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg, putting some separation (7 more points) between the two competitors. The defending champion is ahead in the championship race, 151 points to 134 after seven races. Williams’ Valtteri Bottas joined the two Mercedes drivers on the podium. Montreal is where Hamilton won his first F1 race back in 2007, so the… Continue Reading »
