[F1] Hamilton: Mercedes Can Win More Races

Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 star driver Lewis Hamilton believes that the Monaco Grand Prix isn’t the last race the team will win this season. With a better understanding of the tires, Hamilton says that he thinks “another win is definitely on the books.” “I really do feel that this team is just going to continue to improve through the year,” said Hamilton, who also said that he had to focus on his driving and step up his performance. He was speaking at a media event for the upcoming British Grand Prix. Hamilton admitted that it was all about understanding the current set of tires some more. The car performs well… Continue Reading »

[F1] Rosberg on Pole, Mercedes in Front Row for Monaco GP

With the way he dominated the three free practice sessions at the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg was the easy favorite to claim pole position once qualifying came around. Well, that’s just what he did. Rosberg took his third straight pole by beating teammate Lewis Hamilton, who will start at P2 on the grid to make it a Mercedes AMG Petronas front row. Rosberg clocked an impressive 1:13.876 in Q3, with Hamilton not far behind at 1:13.967. Hamilton actually set his time first again, before Rosberg came to claim pole position. The same thing happened at the last race in Barcelona. “It was changing so much,” said Rosberg, referring… Continue Reading »

[F1] Rosberg Tops Monaco Practice Again

Once again, Mercedes is showing some good pace–in practice, at least. Nico Rosberg topped the third practice session for the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix, with his 1:14.387 time  six-tenths of a second faster than the runner-up’s. Lewis Hamilton also had good pace, with the fifth-fastest time in Free Practice 3. He clocked 1:15.311. Rosberg also topped practice 1 with 1:16.195 and practice 2 with 1:14.759, so this is actually an improved time for the German driver. Hamilton was just behind him in practice 2 yesterday, clocking 1:15.077. We know that the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team has been really great with pace and performance when it came to the practice… Continue Reading »

[F1] Mercedes Needs to Manage ‘Growing Gap’ in Standings

If the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix was anything to go by, it would seem that the Mercedes AMG Petronas team still lacks something significant in order to turn solid practices and great qualifying performance into actual race wins and a good amount of championship points. Nico Rosberg noted the ‘growing gap’ between the Silver Arrows and the top three teams [Red Bull, Ferrari, Lotus]. True enough, despite a sixth-place finish for Rosberg in the last round, Mercedes trails Lotus by 39 points. Rosberg added that the team simply “didn’t have the pace” as the top cars in the Spanish GP. “We have a very quick car but we have to… Continue Reading »

[F1] Mercedes Struggles in Spanish GP; Rosberg Finishes 6th as Alonso Wins

For the Mercedes AMG Petronas team, these strong qualifying performances coupled with disappointing results in the race proper should be very frustrating. That was the story at the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix, where the Silver Arrows drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton started the race from the front row. Pole-sitter Rosberg managed to hold on to his lead for several laps before relinquishing it to eventual race winner Fernando Alonso, and Hamilton was out-muscled right from the get go into P4. By turn 1 of lap 13, Alonso finally makes his move on Rosberg and it was all downhill from there. Both drivers continued to struggle with their race pace…. Continue Reading »

[F1] Mercedes’ Rosberg and Hamilton to Start in Front Row of Spanish GP

Mercedes AMG Petronas showed it was ready. Silver Arrows drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton claimed a one-two finish in qualifying for the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix, which would give the team the front row at the starting grid for tomorrow’s race at the Circuit de Catalunya. Hamilton actually set the pace in the first two rounds of qualifying, but it was Rosberg who really stepped it up in Q3. Rosberg’s time was 1:20.718, with Hamilton just a shade slower at 1:20.972. Rosberg was P2 in Q1, while he was just P6 in Q2. That didn’t matter, though. All he needed was to get into Q3. This makes it Rosberg’s… Continue Reading »

[F1] New Hard Compound Tires Could Key Mercedes Improvement

For much of the first four races of the 2013 Formula One season, the Mercedes AMG Petronas team has struggled with their tires. As the European leg of the season kicks off this weekend with the Spanish Grand Prix, a tweaked Pirelli hard compound tire should help the team’s chances, along with some improvements to the car itself. Nico Rosberg said that the new tire “is closer to the operating window of the medium,” adding that the hards were the ones they found to be particularly problematic. For one, the old hard tires suffered from heavy graining during the team’s winter testing. The weather in Europe should also help the… Continue Reading »
