Rosberg Completes 108 Laps in Day 3 of Barcelona Testing

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team is really making the most of its preseason testing runs so far. On the third day of tests at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg completed yet another 100-plus lap run for the day. Rosberg ran for 108 laps, tied for second-most for the day with Mark Webber. In addition, Rosberg had good pace, and his best lap of 1:22.611 was good for fourth overall compared with the other drivers’ times. Adjustments with the setup as well as gathering all sorts of data was the team’s focus during the morning runs. As for the afternoon itinerary, it was all about getting longer… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg P9, Schumi P13 as Hamilton Gets Pole in Brazilian GP

There was tension all around a damp Interlagos for the qualifying session of the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix, with the battle for the title going down the wire. It was soon-to-be Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Lewis Hamilton who took pole position, while current drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher will start at P9 and P13 on the grid, respectively. Rosberg and Schumacher actually qualified at P10 and P14, but a reprimand for then-P6 Pastor Maldonado—his third of the season, warranting an automatic 10-place grid penalty—bumped the rest of the field from P16 and higher up one spot. “To progress into Q3 and the top 10 in qualifying today was a… Continue Reading »

F1: Schumacher Claims Podium Finish in European GP

All things finally fell into place for Michael Schumacher, at least for one race. The German, who has struggled since his comeback, finally took a podium finish by nabbing third place at the 2012 European Grand Prix, boosting Mercedes AMG Petronas’s bid in the constructors standings and lifting Schumacher’s own dismal personal record so far this season. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso took the victory in a race filled with incidents, not the least of which was the one that took out Lewis Hamilton and Pastor Maldonado, who were then contesting P2. This opened things up for the rest of the pack, particularly Schumacher. Alonso, who started at 11th, now breaks the… Continue Reading »

Rosberg Bags Second, Schumacher Gets a DNF

Another race, another mixed finish for Mercedes AMG Petronas. The 2012 Monaco Grand Prix ended with Red Bull’s Mark Webber on top, followed by Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Michael Schumacher, who led everyone else in the qualifying sessions making a five-place grid penalty seem negligible, ended his Monte Carlo campaign with a thud after retiring in lap 65. It was yet another disappointing race for Schumacher, who was not able to finish after fuel pressure problems in his car caused the German to cut his stint short. There had been radio chatter picked up where Schumacher had been complaining of an unknown issue with the… Continue Reading »

Schumacher: I Want to Pay Mercedes Back

After his stellar performance in qualifying for this year’s edition of the Monaco Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher expressed that his desire to pay Mercedes back figured in his determination to gain a good qualifying result even with a 5-place penalty knocking him back to P6 once the actual race starts. “I want to pay back to Mercedes for all the trust they’ve put in me,” said the 43-year old 7-time Formula One champ, who has struggled all season long but looks to make a big splash at one of the most anticipated races of every F1 season. “Let’s hope it is payback time on Sunday afternoon.” When asked about his… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Drivers Excited for Monaco GP

The Monaco Grand Prix is fast approaching, and F1 fans can’t help but anticipate all the action that can be watched by the time this weekend hits. One can only imagine how excited the drivers themselves are, and some of them recently chimed in on the upcoming F1 race. Let’s see what the Mercedes drivers have to say. “Monaco is just a circuit of its own very unique character,” says 7-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher. “In a way, you could look at it with a big portion of irony with regards to the contradiction that, for so many years we have successfully campaigned for more track safety, and then we… Continue Reading »

Rosberg Says Title Still Possible

The Spanish Grand Prix was a difficult one for Mercedes AMG Petronas; Michael Schumacher retired after a lap 12 collision with Bruno Senna (and subsequently penalized for Monaco), and Nico Rosberg lost fifth place near the end after some tire problems. Still, Rosberg says the championship is right there within his grasp. The thing is, with Pastor Maldonado claiming his maiden F1 victory last weekend, many of the other title contenders did not gain much headway in the standings. Fernando Alonso’s second-place finish allowed him to tie Sebastian Vettel at the top. Both have 61 points, and while Rosberg is at seventh right now, it is a mere 20 points… Continue Reading »
