Hydrogen-Powered Mercedes-Benz Unimog Undergoes Testing

Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Daimler Truck is currently testing a Unimog prototype that comes with a hybrid engine combining diesel and hydrogen combustion. The automaker argues that some construction equipment may not be well-suited for battery-electric or hydrogen fuel-cell powertrains due to their high power needs, hence, the proposed alternative may present a more viable solution. According to Autoweek, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks is testing the Unimog prototype with a lawn-mowing attachment in a publicly funded project by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, called WaVe project. Recently, the standard sedan variant of the range was seen on the road again with minor camouflage. The new spy video shows us what we can expect from the auto when it comes out sometime this year. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Plug-In Hybrid is now available for order. According to Mercedes-Benz USA, the PHEV will start at $122,550 plus an extra $1,150 for the destination and delivery charges. The new S-Class Plug-In Hybrid has all the goodies of its purely gasoline-fed version. Available only in the S580e 4MATIC trim in the US, its powertrain has been revised to combine the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine with a permanently excited synchronous electric motor powered by a 21.5 kWh battery pack for a hybrid setup. The new Mercedes-Maybach S580e is the fruition of the Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 showcased at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance back in 2016. However, it is heavily based on the Mercedes-Benz S580e. The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is powered by a powerful inline-six engine and it’s complemented by a vast array of luxury elements.
