If our friends over at Auto-Motor-und-Sport have it right, then Mercedes-Benz will be changing its naming convention for convertibles and coupes in the near future. The CLK will be the first to go and be replaced by names such as E-Class Convertible and Coupe in 2009. It’s said that Mercedes will expend this strategy to the other models as well, so that at the end of 2009, the CL name will be gone and replaced by the S-Class Coupe. Now this of course may come as a shock to some people, but if we go back a decade, we will see that Mercedes actually used such names to describe their… Continue Reading »
Carscoop is reporting that Mercedes-Benz is prepping a concept car called the CLK Shooting Brake for the Paris Auto Show. As they put it, it will be a sporty three-door model with an elongated rear-end. This will essentially be a first look at how the next-gen CLK will look like when it comes out in 2009. There is a rumor that Mercedes might actually produce a watered-down version of the shooting brake, so far, the only thing that we are sure of is that a coupe and convertable version will make it to the 2009 market. Accoring to Carscoop and its sources, we should see first official images and specs… Continue Reading »

Contrary to what many believe, Mercedes has not given up on taking on and beating the competition with its new CLK. Spies have caught the CLK being tested and prepped for a possible release in 2009 to take on not just the 3-series coupe, but also the new A5 from Audi. According to AutoExpress, the new CLK will continue to be marketed as a separate vehicle and won’t be associated with the C or E-Class, even though, it will share the C-Classes chassis and possibly some design ideas. It will come in a variety of engine options, such as three V6 engines producing 300hp, 354hp, and 428hp. It should also… Continue Reading »
Mercedes-Benz made a big splash with the introduction of its CLK63 AMG Black Series coupe last year. The aggressive “F1 safety-car” look gave the 500 hp CLK Black a visual edge that the CLK55 AMG lacked, and the Black Series’ suspension and brakes were in a decidedly different league compared to other Mercedes. Impressive spec sheet notwithstanding, some customers will still believe that 500 hp is not enough, and for those select few who find the CLK a bit tame, there is always RENNTECH.
Still not expected until sometime before summer 2009, the new Mercedes CLK is already in testing. It was caught in Gernamy and in Sweden. According to WorldCarFans, it should have three different engine choices: a V6 with 272hp, a V8 with 388hp and an AMG version with 503hp. There may also be more engines including diesel versions for some markets (mostly Europe). Head over to WorldCarFans to see more pictures
