The London Borough of Southwark has got a brand new fleet of environmentally-friendly vehicles to help clean the streets and lessen air pollution. They’re none other than Mercedes-Benz’s Sprinter van, chosen by the Southwark Council after a salvo of tests to confirm its environmental prowess. Around 47 Sprinters have been ordered, and an engine that’s compliant with Euro 5 emission standards and the Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle, or EEV, standards powers each one of them. It’s a high seven for Daimler AG as Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles wins first place seven times in this year’s 14th ETM Publishing House Readers’ Poll to search for the ‘Best commercial vehicles of the 2010′ and the ‘Best Brands’. Pushing the MB division to victory were around 7,700 poll participants, which picked MBCV out of 171 nominees. The publications involved were Lastauto Omnibus, Trans Aktuelli and Fernfahrer. MB won six times for Best Commercial Vehicles, and once for Best Brand. Daimler AG’s seeds of trust and labor have borne fruit, and comes in the form of the new Mercedes-Benz Viano transporter. Fresh from the production lines of Fuzhou in the Fujian province of China, the Viano is the first customer vehicle of the partnership between Daimler AG, Fujian Motors Group (FJMG) and China Motor Corp. What better way to transport your family of fifteen than on the new Daimler Sprinter. Boasting of a 16-passenger capacity, this van is designed to rough it out on hotel shuttle duties, paramedic transport and any other job that requires plenty of cabin room plus, reliable service. Spokesman for Mercedes-Benz USA Dan Barile reveals that the Sprinter will offer four interior configurations to boost its versatility. These would include a wheelchair lift that’ll be able to stand up to eight people’s weight. Volker Mornhinweg (50), currently managing director of Mercedes-AMG GmbH in Affalterbach will take over as head of the Mercedes-Benz Vans division effective April 1, 2010. He is succeeding Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard, who was appointed as a Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG in February 2010. In his new position, Mornhinweg will report to Dr. Bernhard.
