New Features Coming To Mercedes-Benz SL And SLK

The enjoyable driving experience offered by the Mercedes-Benz SL and SLK sports cars will be expanded further with a number of new features that are available starting April. The four-cylinder, six-cylinder and the eight-cylinder models of the vehicles will feature the Driver Assistance or the COMAND Online package that offers the latest high-resolution color screen display on its instrument panel. In addition to the added feature, the 7G-TRONIC Plus transmission of the vehicle will be upgraded with the latest Momentary M mode. Carlsson Develops Hillclimb SLK For Meisel Motorsport

Carlsson is better known as a tuning firm that produces high-end performance and aesthetic kits for Mercedes luxury sedans. With their announcement of a racer specially developed for international hillclimbs, Carlsson is making it known that they are in the business of developing hardcore race cars too. As the renderings show, the basis for the car will be a Mercedes SLK, hence the company moniker for it as the Carlsson SLK 340. Unlike today’s Mercedes sedans that don’t reflect engine sizes by their badges anymore, the SLK 340 does displace 3.4 liters from its V8. Although the 2012 SLK is already a pretty nice car as it is, a little bit more is much better, when it comes to upgrades. In this vein, Vath has released its bodykit, performance and interior upgrade lines for the car. As you can see, the body mods include a new front lip and rear diffuser tied together by a lowered suspension riding on 20-inch wheels.  Interior upgrades aren’t as dramatic, with just some carbon fiber trim, new floor mats and aluminum pedals. Mercedes have won many awards for its different vehicles, but the company has had so much success in the Golden Steering Wheel awards, that in fact, the company has been in the all-time winners’ list. The three star brand has won a total of 21 times. This year, Europe votes the SLK and the M-Class as the best in their categories after more than 260,000 readers of Auto Bild, Bild Am Sonntag and other European publications chose the vehicles. Video Shows Development Of SLK 55 AMG Engine

Mercedes has released a video of their new M152 powerplant, which is a naturally-aspirated V8. Based on the twin-turbocharged M157 with which it shares the same displacement, the M152 produces 416 horsepower and a torque figure just shy of 400 pounds-foot. This is the very engine that is in the newly introduced 2012 SLK 55 AMG. One notable feature of this engine is its non-V8 fuel consumption characteristics. It’s because of AMG Cylinder Management, which can disengage half of the V8’s cylinders.
