In case you lost time, this is actually the third time we are posting pictures of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG interior. Nevertheless, every pictures is unique and reveals more and more of the upcoming sports car. In case you have forgotten, the SLS (Gullwing) will be smaller than the outgoing SLR, which in addition to the all-new aluminum space frame contributes to a weight of just 3,571 lbs, a full 300 lbs less than the SLR McLaren.

The SLS wheelbase will be 105.5-inch; the front track will be 1.2 inches wider than the rear. The Gullwing will be powered by a 6.2 liter V8 pumping out 563 hp at 6800 rpm and 479 lb ft of torque at 4700 rpm. It will have a 7 speed dual clutch gearbox, a Race Start launch control function, which will propel the SLS from 0-100 km/h in a respectable 3.8 sec. Top speed will be around 196 mph, oh and for those planning on stopping from that speed, they’ll be helped by 15.4 in discs in front squeezed by six piston calipers and 14.2 inches in the back with 4 piston calipers – carbon ceramic rotors are optional.

For the first time in the company’s history stretching back over 40 years, the Mercedes-Benz performance brand is presenting a vehicle developed in-house, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. An AMG 6.3-liter V8 front-mid engine will be developing 571 hp/420 kW peak output and dry sump lubrication, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in a transaxle configuration and sports suspension with aluminium double wishbones. The newly developed, optional ceramic composite brakes with larger brake discs guarantee even better brake performance and lower unsprung masses. The design and development phase for the super sports car got underway in the last quarter of 2006. The intensive vehicle testing programme will be complete by the end of 2009. Meanwhile, the reinterpretation of the legendary ‘Gullwing’ is scheduled to be launched in spring 2010.

Mercedes-Benz working on a SLK Gullwing?

mercedes benz slk gullwing illustration slc 540x323 Mercedes Benz working on a SLK Gullwing?
Is Mercedes-Benz prepping a new low-end Gullwing? Well according to AutoExpress, Mercedes has plans to bring a new SLK Gullwing to the masses, which may look very similar to its bigger brother, the SLC Gullwing. Besides having some amazing gullwing doors, and draw inspiration from the legendary 300SL, it is also supposed to be hybrid.

With some very muscular lines, it will be a big change compared to the current SLK (which women love to drive). The hood is much longer and due to the gullwing doors, the side sills will be much higher than on normal cars. The designers actually took that weakness and turned it into an opportunity. The higher sides will be used to store lithium-ion battery packs for the hybrid model, which will be closely based on the BlueZero E-Cell Concept shown at the 2009 NAIAS.
