Setra has won a major contract from the country on the Bosporus, with Turkish bus operator Metro placing an order for 50 new Setra S 416 GT-HD/2 coaches in Neu-Ulm. A Setra partner since 2002, this major customer based in Istanbul is thereby increasing the number of Setra coaches in its fleet to 214. The two-axle Setra ComfortClass 400 vehicles will be delivered from late May to early June of this year. Brazil is the largest market for Mercedes-Benz trucks in the world in this year. Between January and September 2009, the Brazilian unit of Daimler Trucks registered sales volume of more than 23,000 units of all weight classes. This equals a decrease of -20% compared to the same period of the record year 2008, a decline that has been much lower than in other major Mercedes-Benz truck market worldwide. “The market and the good performance of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil are very important for Mercedes-Benz Trucks and therefore Daimler Trucks”, said Hubertus Troska, Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks.
Setra Buses and Coaches has delivered its first touring coach with Active Brake Assist (ABA). Active Brake Assist (ABA) reacts to slower-moving vehicles in front by issuing a series of progressive warnings before initiating emergency braking if there is a risk of a collision. ABA is only effective when used alongside AICC (Autonomous Intelligent Cruise Control), whose sensors are used to detect vehicles in front of the bus. The system therefore actively helps to prevent head-to-tail collisions, meaning that it can save lives.
