Now Is A Good Time To Buy A C-Class In China

Some Mercedes dealers in China are reportedly slashing prices on their C-Class inventories in order to keep sales going. This is in reaction to the moves by Chinese authorities to decongest its major cities and tighten lending controls. Coupled with a slowdown in growth, the top luxury carmakers in China, meaning the top three German automakers, are resorting to deep discounts to keep their sales momentum going. BMW has reportedly offered a 19% discount on some 3-series models and some Mercedes-Benz dealers have countered with a 20% discount on C-Class models. Beijing-based analyst Scott Laprise of CLSA Asia Pacific Markets notes that, “We’re in a cycle of dropping prices. Dealers… Continue Reading »

Mercedes To Lead Rival BMW In Sales Early Next Year

A top executive at Mercedes-Benz’s archrival BMW has admitted that Mercedes is on track to become the top-selling luxury carmaker by 2012. This is because of Mercedes’ pace in introducing new models up to the end of this year and early next year. Jim O’Donnell, head of BMW’s U.S. division, concedes that while Mercedes will be coming out with a slew of models, BMW will still have to compete with older models, particularly in the segment where the C-Class and BMW’s 3-series compete head to head. Added O’Donnell, “In the first quarter of next year, I would say Mercedes will be No. 1.” The new 3-series competitor to the C-Class… Continue Reading »

Are used cars really that much cheaper?

With the economy still not back to where it was some years ago, getting used cars for sale instead of a new one is a better alternative. Or not. An economist, Paul Ballew said that over half a million people who bought new cars were actually thinking of buying used ones. “There’s a substitution effect going on between new and used. When you get those price gaps closing, you get people that are willing to shop new that wouldn’t have before,” he shared. This means that when a prospective buyer learned about the smaller price difference, plus the lesser amount of money you will spend on repair and maintenance, they… Continue Reading »
