With the New Year comes reports that Mercedes-Benz has trademarked a design for a smart roadster. The two-seat runabout is unmistakably a smart design and the drawings show a remarkably appealing vehicle that looks to be a hit if it is produced. Topless roadsters always evoke images of fun and spirited driving but of course, given the smart car’s current engines, the spirited part of the equation might not be up to the task. The designs look to be a preview for the next generation of the smart fortwo line. Although the designs – courtesy of the patent office – are for a topless two-seater, it is not hard to… Continue Reading »
Speaking with Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, Mercedes Benz-AMG head Ola Kaellenius revealed its most important launch of next year, that of the Roadster version of the SLS AMG which would have its world debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show on September 2011. The SLS AMG Roadster is expected to be on sale after that as a 2012 model. Also being introduced would be a fuel saving cylinder deactivation system for its 5.5-liter V-8, which would also have a twin turbocharger system to help provide the power that AMG customers want, and expect, from their luxury sports cars. Compared to the previous 6.3-liter powermill, the 5.5-liter version will also have… Continue Reading »
You might have heard about the rumors that Mercedes-Benz and AMG are working on a roadster version for the newly released SLS AMG. Well now we actually have some evidence that supports those rumors in the form of prototype drawings. Autobild released half a dozen shots of what will be a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster. The drawings were taken from the German patent office, which makes it even more legit.
The new SLR Stirling Moss is characterised by the most sophisticated technology and a breathtaking design which reinterprets the SLR legend. With 478 kW/650 hp the SLR Stirling Moss accelerates its V8 supercharged engine from standstill to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 350 km/h – no other series-production car is at the same time so open and so fast. This extreme concept makes the new high-performance sports car a legitimate bearer of the name of the British motor racing legend and Mille Miglia record-holder Stirling Moss, who drove the legendary Mercedes-Benz SLR racing cars from victory to victory in 1955. The exclusive… Continue Reading »
Welcome back everyone, hope you enjoyed the holidays and the time with your family. I am sure Santa treated you with some nice gifts this year, maybe even a new Benz. To kick things off again, we’ll start with a somewhat disappointing story. It seems that even tough Mercedes-Benz will unveil the new SLR Roadster (Stirling Moss) at the Detroit Auto Show; it will not sell the roadster in the US market, according to some sources. Only 75 Stirling Moss SLRs will be built starting in June 2009. The roadster will carry a price tag of $1.04 million; current SLR owners will most likely get the option at buying it… Continue Reading »
While we’ve actually heard Mercedes execs mention small cars and the U.S. multiple times in the same sentence, we didn’t think that they have this in mind – an A-Class based roadster. AutoWeek is reporting that Dieter Zetsche is considering a proposal for a two-seat roadster based on the A- and B-class. The compact front-wheel-drive roadster revives the idea behind the striking Vision SLA concept revealed at the Detroit auto show in 2000 (pictured above). The decision for an A-Class roadster, which would be positioned below the SLK, might have something to do with VW plans on introducing a new mid-engine roadster. BMW is also planning an even smaller roadster… Continue Reading »
