The year 1955 was a very amazing year in the history books of Mercedes-Benz. It marked another Drivers’ Championship win for Juan Manuel Fangio in Formula One using a car with the three-pointed star marque, plus as an unforgettable victory by Stirling Moss in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR at the same year’s Mille Miglia race. However, another victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia that was seldom mentioned was the win of the John Cooper Fitch, together with his navigator Kurt Gesell, in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL in its respective class. One of Jay Leno’s passions is cars. That’s why he can be seen attending various car shows and racing events. Last year, one of the major attractions for auto enthusiasts that he participated in was the Mille Miglia. Mercedes-Benz Becomes Main Automotive Sponsor for Mille Miglia Event

In order to establish a “long-term collaboration,” Mercedes-benz Classic and 1000 Miglia S.R.L., the entity behind Mille Miglia endurance race, have struck a partnership that will see Mercedes-Benz become the main automotive sponsor for the event. As expected because of the company’s extensive participation in the event throughout its history, Mercedes-Benz will be fielding a number of vehicles in this year’s iteration of the Mille Miglia. Some Mercedes-Benz brand ambassadors will also be present and will participate, including former F1 drivers David Coulthard, Karl Wendlinger, and Jochen Mass. Classic car enthusiasts around the world look forward to the Mille Miglia, where Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR will be a part of the starting line this year. The relationship between Mille Miglia and Mercedes-Benz dates back to the time when Karl Kling used the 300 SL in the event in 1952 where he placed second. It marked the homecoming of the luxury vehicle manufacturer to international racing. Mercedes-Benz once again succeeded with Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson winning the 1955 staging of the event. Mercedes-Benz Museum Holds Mille Miglia Exhibition

Fans of the Mille Miglia race are about to get a treat as the Mercedes-Benz Museum is showcasing the “Mille Miglia – Passion and Rivalry” exhibition. The exhibition started October 10 and is set to run all the way through January 6, 2013. The exhibition is made possible through the cooperation of the Museo Mille Miglia. It features nine vehicles (from Mercedes and from competitors as well) that have participated in the 1,000-mile race previously. Aside from vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz SSK, Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, and Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, the vehicle showcase also includes legendary cars from Alfa Romea, Ferrari, and Lancia. Mercedes-Benz Headlines 2012 Mille Miglia

A group of 25 SLR. CLUB members, all with their precious SLR vehicles, took the road on May 16th to participate in the Mille Miglia in Rome, which covers a specified route starting from Brescia then Rome then back to the start to cover 1,000 miles (hence the name). The Mille Miglia is a traditional Italian race from way back in 1927. It was held annually until 1957 and then resurfaced in 1977. This year’s race features a parade of classic cars, a field with a total of 382 competitors—including these 25 SLR owners—that will pass through Italy’s famed cities of Bologna, Florence, and Verona.
