Rosberg, Schumi Start at 7th, 10th at Spanish GP

Mercedes GP has two drivers in the top 10 at the Spanish Grand Prix, with Nico Rosberg placing seventh in qualifying and Schumacher finishing at tenth despite not running his MGP W02 in Q3. Rosberg (1:22:599 in Q3) had 1:22:569 in Q2 but couldn’t improve his performance to get ahead. Meanwhile, Schumi decided not to go for a run in Q3 in order to save on soft tires, which meant he had to be out on the hard tires for the final 10-minute qualifying period. At the pole to start the GP are the two Red Bull Racing cars, as Mark Webber snatched pole from teammate Sebastian Vettel with a… Continue Reading »

Mercedes GP Petronas Starts 9th, 11th on Malaysian GP Grid

The Malaysian Grand Prix is set to start in 20 minutes, and we’re here to recap you about the results of qualifying for the second race of the young Formula 1 season. In a qualifying session that saw Sebastian Vettel take yet another pole (and in the last second of Q3, to boot), Nico Rosberg edged out fellow Merc GP driver Michael Schumacher out of the top 10 with his 1:36.809 to Schumi’s 1:37.035. Mercedes GP Petronas is hoping to bounce back from a disastrous first 2011 race at the Australian GP, with both cars getting retired after an accident to Rosberg’s on lap 22 and puncture damage to Schumi’s… Continue Reading »

Daimler Now Full Owner of Mercedes GP

Daimler has just announced that it has completed its takeover of Formula One racing team Mercedes GP after purchasing team principal Ross Brawn and team management’s remaining 24.9 percent share in the team. The purchase was made with Aabar Investment PJS, the biggest shareholder of Daimler. After the takeover, Daimler will now own 60 percent of the team (from 45.1 percent previously), and Aabar will increase its stake to 40 percent (from 30 percent). Daimler first took the 45.1 percent share in November of 2009, when it invested in what was then Brawn GP, which was the F1 constructor’s champion in its first and only year of existence. “This majority… Continue Reading »

Norbert Haug: W02 won’t Crack F1 Top 10 Just Yet

Nico Rosberg, in the new Mercedes GP Petronas W02 race car, emerged as the time leader in last Sunday’s F1 test session at the Circuit de Catalunya. However, Merc’s motorsport director doesn’t think that the vehicle is quite there yet. Norbert Haug expressed in an interview mere hours before the great run by Rosberg that the car isn’t in the kind of shape needed for a Top 10 finish in a race. “If there was a race today, we would not be in the Top 10,” came the bold statement from Haug. Of course, adjustments and developments had been factored in for Sunday’s run, hence the spectacular finish by the… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Unveils 2011 F1 Race Car

The 2011 FIA Formula One season has gotten underway, with the first rounds of testing starting in Spain’s Valencia circuit. Among the many official race car entries to be revealed on that day were the defending Constructors titlist Red Bull Racing’s RB7 car, Toro Rosso’s STR6, and Mercedes GP’s MGP W02. The 2010 driver lineup is intact, with Nico Rosberg and living legend Michael Schumacher going behind the wheels of the 2011 car. In terms of exterior qualities, a higher nose is most apparent, along with some new green accents to highlight sponsor Petronas some more. “It is always a thrill to see a new car ready to take the… Continue Reading »

Schumacher unscathed after crash

Michael Schumacher’s accident on the opening lap for the last race of the Formula 1 2010 season could have been more disastrous had it not been for the safety shells of the cars.  His Mercedes GP spun out of control when he went off line to a lane that had much dirt. With their speed coming out of the curve, Vitantonio Liuzzi, who did not see him spin, slammed right into his stationary car. Liuzzi’s Force India-Mercedes left front wheel missed Shumacher’s helmet by just a few inches!  Both cars were virtually total wrecks, fortunately the drivers came out of it unscathed.  Schumi went for a precautionary check up at… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz Unveils its 2 Million Euro Motorhome In Monaco

A new motorhome was presented by Mercedes Grand Prix in Monaco, which will be used  this weekend during Grand Prix of the Principality. Mercedes GP previously built a motorhome that is located in the DTM paddocks in Spain due to the strict time schedule between the first two European races. According to the reports, the building costed the team less than 2 million euros, which is a nice deal if compared to Red Bull’s Energy Station that cost them around 15 million euros. Based on Norbert Haug, Mercedes-Benz motorsport boss, they have not exhausted a single cent, more than they need to spend on this said project. The Mercedes team… Continue Reading »
