An official press release from the company stated that the increase will take effect on January 14 this year. Eberhard Ken, the Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India stated that they were forced to share a part of their financial burden to their customers due to the growing input cost, increase in interest rates, the unstable value of the Rupee versus the Euro and other related economic factors. New M-Class Launched in India

The third generation of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV was launched recently in India, and it comes with exciting news that the vehicle will be priced some 15 percent less compared to the last iteration seen in the country. This allows the German automaker to be competitive with the prices offered by BMW and Audi for vehicles in the same segment. BMW has managed to leapfrog Mercedes-Benz for the lead in India’s luxury car market, and the latter is already at risk of losing the second spot to Audi. The repriced M-Class line should help contribute to Mercedes-Benz’s efforts to regain the lead in this market. “We are confident that the… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz Goal 2015: Be the Number 1 in India

In 2009, Mercedes-Benz had been thrown off from the India luxury car segment’s number one spot by its rival BMW. In 2010, the three-pointed star company also had the same fate. However, the Indian counterpart of the brand said that everything will change come 2015. Debashis Mitra, India Director of Sales and Marketing of Mercedes-Benz said, “Our entire product portfolio relevant to the Indian market will come here in the next three years… I think, we will have 9 to 10 new brands by then.” And since in 2015, all the company’s cars for the Indian market will be on shore, Mitra said that the “actual game of numbers will… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz’ Plans to Dominate India

Mercedes- Benz has been the unparalleled leader in luxury car industry in India, for the past 15 years before BMW dethroned them in March of last year. Even after Benz posted an 80% growth, the other German brand led the pack after just five years of entering the shores of India. But the Mercedes-Benz brand will not give way, as they are now trying to win the market for small cars and luxury vehicles in the country. This effort began when they put Peter Honegg as the new managing director and chief executive officer with a goal to make the brand fresh and to cater for the younger market. He… Continue Reading »

Merc, 3 Others Struggling to Meet Luxury Car Demand in India

It’s no secret that the Indian luxury car market is coming up, thanks mainly to such a high demand. If you’ve got mass orders from entire middle-class communities, I’d say that’s a pretty good market. But perhaps demand is getting too high for luxury car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, who are struggling to keep in pace with consumer demand. It has been reported that deliveries are lagging by an average of 3 to 4 months—that’s how long one has to wait for the prized automobile to arrive. The same holds true for other luxury automakers that have set up in the country: Audi, BMW and Porsche. That’s why Benz and… Continue Reading »

I want to work very hard to get back to our number one position,” said Honegg. Part of the brand’s pursuit of pole position includes the relaunching of the ultra-luxury Maybach marque come February 1. Plus, before 2011 ends, expect the new S-Class and C-Class vehicles to hit Indian dealerships. Mercedes-Benz India’s first brand center in Delhi will be finished by… Continue Reading »
