Mercedes-Benz Arocs World Premiere Rounds Out Heavy-Duty Truck Range

The Mercedes-Benz Arocs, the third model in the automaker’s heavy-duty construction vehicle lineup, just had its world premiere in Munich last January 28, rounding out a diverse complement of Euro VI trucks that already had the Actros and the Antos. The Arocs is set to be gradually introduced into the European market starting May of this year. Its role is heavy-duty construction, complemented well by the distribution transport Antos and the long hauler Actros. The three are built off a common platform, but developed with specific roles in mind in order to better suit the particular needs of prospective buyers from various segments and industries. Mercedes-Benz Actros Cops Two More Design Awards

The new Mercedes-Benz Actros just keeps adding to its collection of awards. Not content with a red dot design award, the flagship long-distance truck from the Mercedes-Benz just claimed two additional presitigious awards: the German Design Award 2013 for Transportation and Public Space as well as the Focus in Gold 2012 award in the category of Vehicles. That makes it three design wins for the new Actros, which has been in production since the autumn of 2011. Merc’s New GPS-Based Cruise Control Touts Gear-Shifting and Fuel Efficiency

Predictive Powertrain Control—mark that down as the latest of new technologies Mercedes-Benz is bringing to its vehicles. This is found in the cruise control system offered with the Actros truck, and it has the ability to shift the gears on a vehicle based on the topography scanned by the GPS on the unit. This way, the truck—as well as other vehicles the system will be put inside in the future—can get the optimal gears depending on location, thus saving fuel in the process.
