[F1] Mercedes Still Hoping to Get Some Run at Young Driver Test

The Mercedes F1 team got a fairly minor punishment for its role in what has come to be known as TyreGate, being suspended from the scheduled young driver test on July 17 to 19 at the Silverstone circuit. The Mercedes F1 team had high hopes after Lewis Hamilton took pole position in the team’s home race at the German Grand Prix, but he was passed by the trailing Red Bulls right from the start and he never recovered enough to even challenge for the win. The conditions were great, and the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team showed great form in the first two practice sessions for the 2013 German Grand Prix. Hamilton and Rosberg Visit Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen Facility [with Gallery]

It’s almost time for German Grand Prix weekend, but before that, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team drivers geared up for a visit to the automaker’s Sindelfingen factory. Lewis Hamilton and recent race-winner Nico Rosberg went with Motorsport chief Toto Wolff to the facility located near Stuttgart on Wednesday. Hamilton, Rosberg, and Wolff were taken on an assembly line tour by Works Manager Willi Reiss. They went to look at the S-Class assembly line, which just started this year at this particular facility. The drivers had a chance to fit some wheels onto an S-Class. Lewis Hamilton has Literal Flying Lap with RAF Red Arrows

Who says you can’t mix business with pleasure? Sometimes, though, F1 drivers have way better perks than most of us. Take Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, for instance. He just spent time with David Coulthard and the RAF Red Arrows last Friday, a side event leading up to this weekend’s British GP. Hamilton and Coulthard hopped onto a Hawk T1 jet, going through some loops and rolls during their 30-minute flight in a three-ship formation.
