With a fairly good performance in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix last weekend, those at the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team has to feel good  about themselves. Of course, it was a mixed bag with Lewis Hamilton taking fifth despite a lack of pace and Nico Rosberg being forced to retire midway through because of electrical problems. F1: Australian GP Qualifying Postponed Due to Rain; Rosberg Paces Q1

The 2013 Rolex Australian Grand Prix is off to a rainy start, with Q2 and Q3 postponed for the morning of Sunday because of heavy rain in Melbourne’s Albert Park circuit. The race is still scheduled to start at 5 pm Australian time on Sunday. Lewis Hamilton was actually pacing the field sometime during Q1, but the Mercedes AMG Petronas newcomer had to settle for P10 and a shot at a better grid position for Q2. There’s less than half an hour to go before the first qualifying session in the 2013 Formula One season. With the third practice earlier hit by some rain, there’s still practically no easy way to predict just who will come out on top at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix. Damon Hill, the British former F1 world champion, thinks that compatriot Lewis Hamilton can turn the fortunes of Mercedes AMG Petronas around. In an interview with SunSport, Hill said that, with the addition of Hamilton, himself a former world champion, is instrumental in how Mercedes is showing its true potential. F1: Hamilton Runs 113 Laps, Gets Second-Fastest Time in Barcelona Day 1

In the afternoon of day 1 of a new round of preseason Formula 1 testing in Barcelona, Lewis Hamilton of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team managed 1:24:348, which might not be all that close to the top time set by Mark Webber (1:22.693) but was still good enough for second best during the day. That was just part of the day-leading 113 laps Hamilton completed on the F1 W04. Over the entire outing, Hamilton totaled 526 kilometers. Rosberg Completes 108 Laps in Day 3 of Barcelona Testing

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team is really making the most of its preseason testing runs so far. On the third day of tests at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg completed yet another 100-plus lap run for the day. Rosberg ran for 108 laps, tied for second-most for the day with Mark Webber. In addition, Rosberg had good pace, and his best lap of 1:22.611 was good for fourth overall compared with the other drivers’ times.
