Hamilton’s smoking hot Mercedes-Benz up for auction

One of the perks about being a celebrity is that literally everything you touch almost always turns to gold for your fans. Make that triple if you’ve won the Formula One World Championship and once dated, and dumped, the leader of the Pussycat Dolls. So many men are just dying to get into your Nomex shoes.

The celebrity is none other than 2008 Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton. And the gold bar here is, of course, a Mercedes-Benz, a small token of reward for his services to Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. But not because it has Hamilton’s signature embroidered into its seats. The reason? He hooned it.

Thus, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG was gloriously kept under Australian police custody for 24 hours after Hamilton got caught drifting it around a corner intersection, tires ablazin’, just two days before the Australian Gran Prix. To his credit, the former world champ pulled over and cooperated very well with the apprehending officers. Watch the video above.

As a result of his over-exuberant driving, the Benz, with a mere 5,000 kilometers on its odometer after a couple days under Hamilton’s hands, is now up for bidding and will likely command up to $150,000.

Hamilton Got a Ticket for Awesome Burnouts

Everybody loves burnout especially the police because they put an end to it with a ticket. That’s exactly what happened when Lewis Hamilton was handed over the keys of a 2010 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG sedan at Albert Park, Melbourne. He reportedly burned some rubber and has been apprehended for the same by the Melbourne cops.

Though, Hamilton is not solely guilty. Credit should actually go to car’s standard 6.3-litre 450-horsepower V-8 which made the burnout a success. Hamilton was charged under the offence “improper use of a motor vehicle”.

After the incident, Hamilton was heard regretting his actions. According to the official statement released by the McLaren Hamilton said, “This evening, I was driving in an over-exuberant manner and, as a result, was stopped by the police. What I did was silly, and I want to apologize for it.” This statement was complimented by the Senior Constable Scott Woodford, who said Hamilton was “worried this would dent his reputation.

Can’t say about the Aussie cops but, we at Benzinsider won’t accuse Hamilton as far as smoky burnouts and fish-tailing are concerned. But I recommend he choose a more appropriate place next time.

Video of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-24 unveiling

While still retaining the distinctive family look established with both the MP4-22 and MP4-23, this year’s car is visually very different from its predecessors as a result of two main factors: Aerodynamics and KERS (kinetic energy recovery system)

The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team today launched the car it will campaign in the 2009 FIA Formula 1 World Championship at its headquarters in Woking, England.

Unveiled by world champion Lewis Hamilton and his team-mate Heikki Kovalainen, the new MP4-24 bears little resemblance to its world championship-winning predecessor due to the introduction of a raft of new rules that have radically reshaped Formula 1 ahead of the 2009 season.

Now featuring heavily revised bodywork, re-sculpted front and rear wings, slick tires and a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS), the MP4-24 has been in development since September 2007 in order to successfully accommodate the huge changes to the technical regulations.
