AMG Releases SLS GT3 Production Video On YouTube

Now that the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 has notched a few important victories under its belt, here’s a look at how this solid performer is being produced. Released at no less than the official AMG channel at YouTube, the video shows how this circuit beast is put together. Team Black Falcon Heads SLS GT3 Parade

In a reminder of the marque’s past dominance in motorsport, Mercedes-Benz SLS GT3s took the first three places in the recently-concluded 24 Hours of Dubai. The race was held at the 5.39 km long circuit that also is used for F1 Grands Prix. The first place in this race was also the maiden victory for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 in a 24-hour race. Second and third places were taken by HEICO Motorsport SLS GT3s, which had Mercedes DTM driver Bernd Schneider playing a supporting role as part of Mercedes’ customer support program. SLS AMG GT3 wins podium in 1st round of VLN NEC

It’s really no surprise when a race car in its development phase doesn’t outperform its competitors during the first ever race of the season. However, the SLS AMG GT3 broke that rule when its team achieved a podium finish in the first leg of the GT3 series over the weekend. The Gullwing race car, ran by the Black Falcon team, scored third in the points system and finished first in the opening round of the VLN Nurburgring Endurance Championship. SLS GT3 Racer Passes Crash Test Requirements

Part of today’s motorsports requirements is crash safety and to this end, Mercedes has worked to meet the safety requirements of the upcoming Nurburgring Endurance Championships by having it SLS AMG GT3 undergo extensive crash testing to confirm that the racer is in compliance with these standards. According Daimler, “All the tests conducted by the Mercedes Benz safety specialists are more stringent by far than those prescribed for racing cars by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile).” The picture released by the company even shows an SLS being used as the battering ram to test the race car’s side impact resistance. SLS AMG GT3 Trio to Compete in 24-Hour Race, Marks End of Testing for Gullwing Sport Edition

Mercedes-Benz has recently entered not one, not two, but three SLS AMG GT3s in the 24-hour race in Dubai, which will be held on January 14, 2011. It will mark the last leg of testing for the gullwing’s racing model. The trio will race under customer teams Heico Motorsport as well as Black Falcon. Heico Motorsport is entering one SLS AMG GT3 under car number 9, while Black Falcon will enter two (numbers 7 and 8). SLS AMG GT3 can’t get enough chrome

It used to be that the only thing worth chroming out were wheels. Then adventurous custom car makers figured out, why not chrome the whole car? You’d think Mercedes-Benz cars would be excluded from such blasphemous acts of car fanaticism, but then you’d be wrong. Almost all of the high-end Mercedes-Benz vehicles have suffered under the hands of paint shop boys wielding chromatose air brushes.
