mercedes benz michael schumacher formula 1 Official: Michael Schumacher to race for Mercedes GP in 2010
After weeks and even months of rumors and speculation, it has finally drawn to a close. Michael Schumacher will join the Mercedes GP in 2010 as Nico Rosberg’s team mate. He has signed a 1 year contract, and weill earn approximately 7 million euros while there. Schumacher recently underwent medical checks and is confident he is back to full fitness.

“Mercedes Grand Prix Petronas represents a new challenge for me both in a sporting and a personal context,” Schumacher commented. “It is a new chapter in my racing career and I am really looking forward to working with my old friend Ross Brawn and my companions from my days with the Mercedes Junior Programme.”

“I am convinced that together we will be involved in the fight for the Formula 1 World Championship next year and I am already looking forward to getting back onto the race track. For me, this partnership closes the circle. Mercedes supported me for so many years when I began my Formula 1 career and now I can hopefully give something back to the brand with the star.”

Good to have you back Schumi. What’s even better is that you are now with the right team.

2009 Bahrain Grand Prix

Who would have thought that Brawn GP would be leading both in the constructors and drivers leader board, with Button and Barrichello in the one and two position, just a month or so ago. This season has been turned upside down by the Brawn GP guys, as Mclaren Mercedes and Ferrari are having enormous difficulties not only keeping up with them but also scoring any points. This weekend was no different, Jensen Button finished first, ahead of Vettel (another big surprise this year) and Trulli – Lewis finished 4th.

Either way, the Mercedes engine is kicking some serious butt, well in the hands of Jensen Button and Barrichello. That same engine isn’t working so nicely for Lewis and Co. For all those that were wishing to have more diversity in the F1 and gotten sick and tired of the Ferrari vs Mclaren fights, this season has definitely granted them that wish.

Video: Lewis Hamilton crashing into Raikkonen during GP in Canada

Here is a video of the accident between Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen. Lewis Hamilton retired on lap 20 after his pit stop during the Safety Car period, when he hit Kimi Raikkonen’s Ferrari at the pit lane exit who had stopped. While you can clearly see Nico Rossberg’s tail light flashing red (indicating that he is braking), Kimi’s light is not flashing at all, even though, he is clearly slowing down before reaching the while line, not sure why this happened, but it might be that Hamilton did not notice Raikkonen stopping.
