In the first half of 2013, Daimler AG took the top spot in German in terms of electric cars, with electric-powered Mercedes-Benz models combining with smart brand sales to achieve a 42 percent overall market share. Daimler’s recent press release revealed that the 2014 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive is going to be rolling in the U.S. highways by early next year. The new car makes its public debut at the International Auto Show in New York this week. The company hypes the Electric Drive as having an environmentally-friendly feature which has zero-emission coupled with dynamic performance, power and style. The latest news coming out of Mercedes is that the B-Class Electric Drive will be made available to the North American market before its sees dealer showrooms in Europe. Slated to be released in 2014, this variant will be classified as the W242, as opposed to W246 from which it was originally derived. The latest prototypes have been observed with revised front spoilers and side skirts, compared to what was presented at the 2012 Paris launch. Seen recently on the Mercedes stand at the 2012 Paris Motor Show was the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric drive. This pure electric car is powered by a lithium-ion battery co-developed with Tesla. Range is touted to be 125 miles, with a top speed of 93 mph. Apparently, the Electric Drive will be the only version of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class that will be made available in America. At this year’s Paris Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz is giving us a first look at the production ready SLS AMG Electric Drive. It’s certainly no wimpy electric car though; this fully fledged AMG supercar has 740 horsepower and will launch itself from 0 to 60mph in less than 4 seconds. It’s also got a ridiculous 737lb/f of torque. These statistics will make the SLS the fastest and most powerful production electric car in the world, though not the fastest SLS. Top speed will be, of course, limited to 155mph, but Mercedes-Benz anticipates that this will be reached easily.
