Mercedes-Benz with Poor Qualifying for First DTM Race in Russia

P7 on the grid–that’s the best that the Mercedes-Benz team could manage during the first DTM qualifying session in Russia. However abruptly the session ended, the Mercedes-Benz cars just couldn’t quite push the pace because of a number of reasons, although the constructor did manage to place four drivers in the top 10. The session was halted after Q3 because there was a flying ban over Moscow airspace because of Russian president Vladimir Putin’s flight. Mercedes-Benz DTM Team Relies on Actros Trucks to Journey 2,600km from Germany to Russia

With the DTM headed to Russia for the touring car championship’s inaugural race at the Moscow Raceway, the Mercedes-Benz team will be relying on 6 units of the new Mercedes-Benz Actros to shuttle the team’s equipment for over 2,600 kilometers in a journey that goes from the team’s German HQ all the way to Russia, passing through Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia in the process. [DTM] Mercedes-Benz Preps for First Race in Russia

Formula One may be on a brief summer hiatus, but DTM motorsport action continues this weekend with a very special race. It’s the first time in DTM’s 28 years that a race will be held in Russia, and the Mercedes-Benz team is busy preparing for the inaugural contest at the Moscow Raceway. [F1] Mercedes-Benz DTM Driver Juncadella Tests for Williams

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team may be banned from the Formula 1 Young Driver Test at Silverstone, but at least Mercedes-Benz DTM driver and junior team member Daniel Juncadella is getting some action. The 22-year-old Spanish driver managed to complete 55 laps during the first day, with a lap time that’s good for fifth-best among all participants. The best lap time on Wednesday belonged to Kevin Magnussen of McLaren, and he also ran the most laps at 100. Juncadella was also tasked to take over Pastor Maldonado’s afternoon run for the second day. [DTM] Mercedes-Benz Scores Triple Victory Pending Audi Appeal

After 83 laps at the Norisring, Mattias Ekstrom was the first to cross the finish line. However, the apparent race-winner was excluded from the results by the stewards following an alleged violation of the DTM Sporting Regulations. In turn, Robert Wickens took home his first DTM race win and two other Junior Team drivers joined him on the podium. Completing the triple victory are Christian Vietoris, at second, and Daniel Juncadella, at third. Audi, however, will be appealing the stewards’ decision, so right now, this is a provisional result. Mercedes Junior Driver Takes Pole at Norisring

In a result that surprised even himself, a Mercedes DTM team junior driver outpaced his more experienced teammate and grabbed pole position for the 5th race of the season. Canadian Robert Wickens, drove the STIHL Mercedes AMG C-Coupé to the primary grid position for Sunday’s race with a lap time of 48.384 seconds. Said Wicken, “At first, I was speechless. Mercedes Celebrates A Quarter Century Of DTM Racing

The weekend of July 13 and 14th will see Race 5 of the DTM Series being undertaken at the Norisring in Nuremberg, Germany.  In  the past 25 years, Mercedes-Benz has raced cars in the DTM, having sent its cars into battle beginning in 1988. Since then, cars bearing the 3-pointed star have won 169 races, ten driver’s championships and thirteen team titles. More importantly, it has garnered 9 constructors championships in the same period,  making Mercedes-Benz the most successful manufacturer in the history of the DTM.
