NatGeo Features Mercedes-Benz SLS In Its Ultimate Factories Series

Viewers following the Ultimate Factories series being produced by National Geographic will be gratified to learn that the next installment will feature a build of none other than Mercedes-Benz’s luxury supercar, the SLS. Choosing the SLS from the myriad, and deserving, choices would have been an easy task for the producers of the TV segment since the the SLS is the first car designed solely by AMG and is produced in a low volume to retain its exlcusivity. Mercedes Aims For Top Spot In India By Yearend

Acknowledging that it does not control the top spot in terms of cars sales in India, Mercedes-Benz has declared that it may again do so by the end of the year. Stating that overall car sales went up over 30 per cent last year, Dieter Zetsche Mercedes Benz chairman added that “I’m proud to say that our sales force in India performed even better in 2010 and increased our sales here by as much as 80 per cent.” BMW has been the acknowledged leader for the past years in India but Mercedes’ optimism is grounded in fact. Mercedes’ Tweet Race Ends With Over $120,000 For Charity

Mercedes’ Tweet Race has come to a successful conclusion, in the end managing to raise over $120,000 for charity. “This was an amazing experience for us,” said Stephen Cannon, VP of Marketing for MBUSA. “The Tweet Race was a strategic leap of faith in terms of not only allowing but encouraging people to engage with Mercedes-Benz on their own terms. Mercedes Power Motivates New Baby Infiniti

The Mercedes-Benz – Renault-Nissan collaboration has resulted in the DE18LA engine being used for the upcoming baby Infiniti. The DE18LA is a turbocharged 1.8 liter inline four that produces around 200 horsepower. The new Infiniti is slated to be introduced at the Geneva motor show next month. In keeping with the Infiniti name, the car will be a small premium luxury three-door coupe, with styling cues borrowed from the Essence concept car. Industry sources revealed that the production model may be based on a Renault-Nissan platform that will be shared with the Megane. Legend 6 Exhibit Celebrates Evolution Of Vehicle Drive Systems

In celebrating the company’s 125 years as a car manufacturer, the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart has opened a new room called the Legend 6. The theme for this room is ‘New start – the Road to Emission-free Mobility’. Recall that it was 125 years ago this year that Carl Benz received the patent for the world’s first car and you can see why this year is a cause for celebration and looking forward for Mercedes. Maybachs On The Threshold As Daimler Debates Division’s Future

The future of the Maybach line is uncertain as Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche revealed at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show this week. Concerning Maybach, Zetsche has said that “Everything is on the table”. Daimler is looking at all options for the super-luxury Maybach division at a time when it has seen its business falter as a result of the economic crisis. Meant to compete with Bentley, Rolls-Royce and other luxury marques, the Maybach division sold just 63 cars in the U.S. last year. AMG Head Kallenius Mulls New Models For The Division

In an interview, AMG Head Ola Källenius has said that Mercedes-Benz’ high-performance division is looking at new models for the company to produce. For AMG, the SLS is only an example of what the company can, and is capable of, doing. AMG thinks that other models will be good for the division and breath fresh life into it. That AMG can produce the SLS indicates that there doesn’t necessarily have to be a mass-produced model acting as a base.
