Car2go a Big Hit, Set to Expand

The car2go car-sharing program seems to be gaining traction in the United States after just a shade over a year since its introduction in Austin, Texas. Parent company Daimler is highly satisfied with the results, and has now decided to expand the coverage of the program and expand its fleet by adding another 100 vehicles. Once the expansion is done, car2go will have 300 smart vehicles specifically designed for the car-sharing platform. Mercedes-Benz F-CELL World Drive: From New Orleans to San Antonio

The seventh leg of the F-CELL World Drive led the vehicles from New Orleans in Louisiana over a distance of more than 1.070 kilometers to San Antonio, Texas. Along the way, the tour made a stopover at the mobility project car2go in Austin. Whole Foods and car2go sign agreement

car2go North America ( a subsidiary of Daimler with headquarters in Austin, TX) has just signed an agreement with Texas-based retail store Whole Foods Market to provide designated parking spots for car2go vehicles for shopper’s convenience as the come out of the store. “Whole Foods Market maintains a strong commitment to a sustainable future and we believe this partnership will reinforce that commitment,” said car2go CEO Nicholas Cole. Daimler AG starts second “ride sharing 2.0” project, this time in Aachen

Three weeks after the start of the car2gether pilot project in Ulm Daimler AG is announcing the second pilot project of the new mobility concept: on 8 October 2010 car2gether will be launched in the Aachen region. car2gether is a web-based ride sharing community arranging incoming offers and requests for lifts. Smart Fortwo – Car2go Edition Set into Motion

car2go and smart have currently presented a new lineup of cars, a blue and white smart fortwo that will be manufactured at the smart plant in Hambach, Lorraine, as a fully-modified “car2go edition”. The car2go edition is adapted with the latest telematics hardware, a fresh control unit with touchscreen, and a solar roof produced solely for the smart. Car2go Program Reaches 10,000 Members

The car sharing program that was started by Daimler last May 2010 has attained 10,000 registered members in its first North American city – Austin, Texas. Based on the statement of Daimler, since the launch of car2go program, over 80,000 rentals have been recorded all over the greater downtown Austin area with average usage ranging from 30 and 60 minutes per rental. The customers vary in age from college students to retirees, with around 50 percent of them aged 18 to 35.
