Car2go To Provide 300 Smart EVs In San Diego

Car2go, a car sharing company owned by Daimler, is launching additional U.S. operations before the end of the year. Already operating in Europe and Vancoucer, Canada, Car2go will be made available in San Diego, which is positioning itself as the U.S.’s EV capital. The service will make available 300 electric Smart cars after an apparently successful pilot program in Austin, which used conventional gasoline-engined Smart cars. Equipped with solar roofs and plug-in capability, the Smart electric cars can go up to 84 miles per charge. car2go Service Launches In Vancouver

If everything goes as scheduled, June 18 will have marked the day 225 smart car2go cars were made available in Vancouver, British Columbia. The innovative service has no reservations or time limits and members can make one-way trips without worrying about returning cars to a certain point. 2,000 people in Vancouver have already registered and the free membership registration has been extended to July 3 to accommodate the overwhelming response to the program. Car2Go program to expand starting with 60 additional charging stations

Stuttgart officials have officially announced the launch of Smart’s Car2Go program to be in 2012. The program will begin with 200 Smart electric drive vehicles to be stationed for operation in Mercedes-Benz’s home country, Germany. Word comes from Stuttgart’s Lord Mayor himself, Wolfgang Schuster, acknowledges the benefits that the program will nevertheless bring to the city. Daimler AG’s Car2Go program had already proved itself in test runs held in both Hamburg and Ulm in Germany. car2go announced on Tuesday that Vancouver, British Columbia, is the first Canadian city selected to launch its innovative mobility service. car2go is starting operations in Hamburg, Germany

car2go launched in the first city with more than a million inhabitants. car2go is starting operations in Hamburg with 300 new “car2go edition” smart fortwo. The operator is car2go Hamburg GmbH, a joint venture between the Daimler subsidiary car2go GmbH and Europcar Autovermietung GmbH. The initial area of operation will cover the 65 square kilometres within “Ring 2”.
