Running under the slogan “Fast forward to tomorrow”, the company seeks to show through all media channels—TV, online specials and ads—how far they’ve come in achieving their goals. BlueEFFICIENCY, which later developed into various versions such as BlueTEC for diesel engines and BlueDIRECT for petrol engines, is just one of the company’s groundbreaking innovations. Daimler presented to the public the details of their newest offer to the S-Klasse range, which is the Mercedes-Benz S-Klasse S 350 BlueTEC. The German company labels the model as the most economic and safest S-Klasse ever. The car is powered by a V6 diesel engine that runs at a maximum 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque, allowing it to run from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds and continue going until attaining an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The S350 is a fine vehicle. And it’s made even better with its BlueTEC engine. This car has both safety and comfort sprawled all over it and the performance of a super car. Powered by a V8 that uses fuel like a mid-sized sedan, it’s one of the most efficient, yet sizable and agile, premium cars there is. The Mercedes Benz S400 Hybrid is the world’s first mass produced car with a lithium ion battery. It’s the first Mercedes with a hybrid drive. The race is on for zero emissions, and Mercedes-Benz is leading the pack in the bus segment. Taking things a step further from Euro 5 emission standard compliance, MB has now upgraded their buses with EEV technology. EEV, which stands for Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle, dramatically improves a vehicle’s emissions without having to add any additional exhaust filter. EEV technology effectively reduces particle emissions by as much as one-third, a giant leap from previous versions. Past versions of the EEV featured SCR technology, which stands for Selective Catalytic Reduction, plus a diesel particulate filter in the exhaust line to cut down as much emissions as possible. The Daimler Competence Center for Emission-free Mobility at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Mannheim is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary. Since 1994, the center has enhanced numerous alternative drive systems for commercial vehicles and cars all the way to the small-series production stage. The aim of the Competence Center is to bring green technologies to market at affordable prices. Among the vehicles that Daimler is currently building at the center are the Mercedes-Benz B-Class 180 NGT, the prototypes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class 200 NGT, which will begin series production in the fourth quarter of 2010, and the Mercedes-Benz Atego BlueTec Hybrid truck.
