Rendering of future B-Class SUV – the BLK

MotorAuthority has created a rendering of the future B-Class SUV, a so called soft-road BLK. As you might have heard, the A and B-Class will not be produced in their current form, but will be replaced by four different models – a cabriolet, a coupe, an MPV, and a small SUV. The above rendered BLK will come in two trim levels – street and nature. The nature trim is for those who intend to take the BLK into a more rough and tumble sort of environment. There will also be several engine options available, like a 1.8L engine, will have 136hp, or a 180 CDI will also have 136hp.

New Plant in Hungary: Home of the next-Gen A and B-Class

Rainer Schmückle, Chief Operating Officer of Mercedes-Benz Cars, and Gordon Bajnai, Hungarian Minister for National Development and Economy, signed the cooperation agreement for the construction of a new Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskem©t in presence of Ferenc Gyurcsà¡ny, Prime Minister of Hungary, and Dr. Gà¡bor Zombor, the Mayor of the city of Kecskem©t. Mercedes-Benz is building the plant in order to create additional production capacity in the compact car segment, where the model range will be expanded from two to four vehicles. New Mercedes-Benz BLK Rumors

According to Autocar, Mercedes is working on a small crossover called the BLK, which will be part of the new A and B-Class range. It’s being prepped for a possible late 2011 launch and should compete directly with the future BMW X1 and Land Rover LRX in the small SUV segment. Sources report that the BLK will receive four-wheel drive and possibly even a FWD eco version. The eco version might just be a micro-hybrid, if they opt out for a direct hybrid. The micro-hybrid has start/stop technology to improve fuel consumption when the car is not moving. Mercedes-Benz A and B-Class may be coming to U.S. in 2011

Sales of the S-Class fell 23% for the first 6 months, and will probably continue falling as gas prices take a toll on Mercedes-Benz and its sales numbers. To combat the decrease in sales, Mercedes may be looking into increasing prices, as if prices weren’t high enough right now. Dieter Zetsche said “we will continue to go fro pricing and lose some volume rather than see our contributions deteriorate.” Their long term strategy is to finally bring the next-gen A and B-Class vehicles to the States. Mercedes CLA: A cross between the CLS and the B-Class?

German car magazine ‘AutoZeitung’ is reporting that Mercedes may be working on something that is a cross between the B-Class and the magnificent CLS. While such an offspring is somewhat absurd, the magazine has posted an shopped illustration of the what it my look like. Beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder, but to us, the so called CLA may have potential. Like they stated, it does have those CLS lines, but it seems like it is a MPV vehicle as well. via CarScoop

Mercedes-Benz extends its model range and builds new plant

Just last week, we reported on Daimler’s intentions to expend its compact vehicle product line-up to four instead of today’s two vehicles (A and B-Class); the four vehicles will be: off-road, cabrio, coupe and mini-van. Today, Mercedes is confirming the rumored intentions and has released details on where the models will be built. An Investment of 600 Million Euro in the Rastatt plant will secure the long-term capacity utilization of the plant. In order to access new markets and create additional production capacities, Mercedes-Benz has also decided to built a new plant in Kecskem©t, Hungary.

Mercedes to Stop Producing A and B-Class Models

German newspaper ‘Frankfurt Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung’ is reporting that Daimler AG will stop the production of the current Mercedes brand A- and B-class models. They are claiming that Mercedes will replace the vehicles with a whole new model family. Instead of the two models, there will be four vehicles: off-road, cabrio, coupe and mini-van. “We are working on a complete new concept for a successor for the A- and B-class models,” the report cites executive board sources as saying.
