Active Brake Assist 2 System Bags FuturAuto Award

Mercedes-Benz vehicle systems seem to be winning awards left and right. The most recent win involves the Active Brake Assist 2 system on the Actros line of heavy-duty trucks from the German automaker, after the system beat 16 other candidates for the coveted FuturAuto Award. The system, barely introduced three months ago at Hanover’s International Motor Show, was awarded the FuturAuto 2011 award in Brussels. This award is given yearly by Belgian motoring journalists to recognize innovative and notable developments where vehicle safety, green technology, fuel economy and comfort level are concerned. Mercedes-Benz Trucks head honcho Hubertus Troska was present at the awarding ceremony and cited the system’s contributions to… Continue Reading »

ADAC Recognizes Mercedes-Benz Innovations With Yellow Angel Award

ADAC, the German automobile association, has once again handed out one of its prestigious awards to Mercedes-Benz for new driver assistance technologies that were developed by Mercedes recently. Given the Yellow Angel award by ADAC in the Innovation & Environment category were the Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist systems. Active Blind Spot Assist alerts the driver to the risk of collision brought about by an abrupt lane change and an unseen vehicle is by the side-view mirror’s blind spot. Active Lane Keeping Assist uses ESP technology to bring the car back on track when the system detects the vehicle drifting out of its lane. “This Yellow… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Lauded as Value Champion

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class was recently given the title of 2011 Value Champion after the executive sedan line emerged as the vehicle that had the lowest value loss among the upper segment. This assessment was made by Auto Bild magazine and EurotaxSchwacke, the German subsidiary of Glass’s Guide—the leading used-car price guide. In the value retention assessment, it was found that a 4-year old E300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model still goes for over half of its original value—54.8 percent, to be exact. Mercedes-Benz vehicles have always been among the consistent top value retainers, and the streak continues up to 2010. This goes to show how highly regarded Merc vehicles are in the… Continue Reading »

2011 SLS AMG is Playboy’s Car of the Year

While it’s not really one of the major validations of a car model’s success, it’s still nice to get recognized by publications that have wide readership. After all, that is still free (good) publicity. Not that the 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG still needs much hype, but winning the 2011 Playboy Car of the Year adds another feather on the cap of the luxury grand tourer. It’s easy to see why the SLS AMG is worthy of being anyone’s Car of the Year. With those tantalizing curves on its exterior, the raging 563hp from the 6.2L V8 engine and a 3.7-second time to go from 0-62 mph, the car is simply… Continue Reading »

PRE-SAFE technology caps two Euro NCAP awards for safety

Another award has been vested on German premium car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. This time, it’s from the European New Car Assessment Programme, or Euro NCAP. The two awards were won with the company’s anticipatory occupant protection system, dubbed PRE-SAFE, and the PRE-SAFE Brake driver assistance systems. So now you’re wondering what these systems do. The PRE-SAFE technology is linked to the vehicle’s Brake Assist and Electronic Stability Program, or ESP, as well as to other driver assistance systems. The sensors on these systems then provide the PRE-SAFE with critical driving information within milliseconds, enabling it to respond at high speeds. For example, the system will be able to detect if the… Continue Reading »

GM nominates the R-Class for North American Car of the Year

Daimler AG and General Motors were once tied together in a partnership that didn’t quite go as planned. Back then, too many things were at stake and both companies realized that they didn’t make the perfect team. But now, things look better between the two car manufacturing giants, especially with GM’s nomination of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class for this year’s North American Car of the Year award. The award is exclusive in the United States. Why? Because it isn’t bested by just one media company. An entire organization of automotive magazine, television, radio, newspaper and online journalists from the US and Canada team up to find suitable candidates for nomination. This… Continue Reading »

And the most satisfying car brand for Germans is…

Are you happy with your Mercedes-Benz? Well, according to a study by the highly-renowned J.D. Power and Associates Index on the Satisfaction of Car Buyers, you are. It’s amazing how research companies can read your mind, isn’t it? According to their large-scale survey, the car brand with which people—well, Germans mostly—are most satisfied is none other than Daimler’s brainchild. A lot of their success it seems stems from the popularity of the C-Class and the CLK, which also won in their respective categories under the same survey. What all this means is that Mercedes-Benz owners such as yourself are the most satisfied motorists in all of Germany. The survey was… Continue Reading »
