Mercedes-Benz has reached out to us to see if we would like to involve our community in a little experiment. They are interested in hearing your questions regarding the Concept A-Class. Together with Alex, who runs Probefahrer.de, it is our job to ask Christoph Horn (Mercedes-Benz Director of Global Communications) some interesting questions regarding the Concept A-Class.

The Concept A-Class will be presented at the Shanghai Motor Show next week, so your questions, if picked, will be answered very quickly. The best part is that there will be a live-stream on the Mercedes-Benz facebook fan page, which means you’ll be one of the first people to see the official unveiling of the Concept A-Class.

So ask away and get your questions answered by Christoph Horn himself.

- What would you like to know about the Concept A-Class?

Mercedes-Benz’s vision for commercial transport at the NEC

mercedes benz to share vision of future transportation at 2011 cv show 33894 1 597x396 Mercedes Benzs vision for commercial transport at the NEC

Those of you who will be attending the Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC on the 12th and the 14th should check out Mercedes-Benz’s display showcasing their idea of the future of commercial transport. The company’s message is that “saving the planet need not cost the Earth,” clearly signifying its dedication to producing cleaner and more environmentally-friendly commercial vans and trucks for the future.

To give you a taste of things to come at the show, the Vito E-CELL, the world’s first ever battery-powered van to be mass-produced in one of Mercedes-Benz’s mainstream manufacturing plants, will be up for display in two forms—completely built up from top to bottom and stripped down to its underchassis. Fans will be able to scrutinize the high level of engineering that went into its electric driveline system.

Meanwhile, the cream of the crop version of the Vito, powered by Mercedes-Benz’s Euro 5 BlueEFFICIENCY engine, badged as the 113CDI will be parked on the show floor along with the Sprinter 316 NGT gasoline version sporting a factory-sourced dropside bodywork. According to Mercedes-Benz spokes officials, it spews out “practically no particulate emissions and has an exceptionally low carbon footprint when run on liquid biomethane produced from organic waste.” Sounds like a real treat for environmentalists out to get commercial vehicles for polluting the air. Don’t you think?

Detroit 2011: The automobile interior becomes a work of art

811941 1493651 5616 3744 10C1383 01 Custom 597x397 Detroit 2011: The automobile interior becomes a work of art
At the 2011 North American International Detroit Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz not only captures visitors’ attention with fascinating automobiles and technical innovations, but enthrals with an art object as well. Interior Design at Mercedes-Benz in Germany has created a sculpture that expresses visually that which inspires designers, and on the other hand gives space to the creative artistic process in the design of the vehicle interior. It makes an aesthetics of sustainability visible and is oriented towards the perfect forms of nature which evolved over periods spanning millions of years.

Mercedes-Benz Aesthetics No. 2 sculpture is this idea made visible. It consciously defies the shackles of the limited context of ergonomics, technical feasibility, formal constraints and, not least, the exterior of the vehicle, in order to impress the observer with its pure sensory-aesthetic appeal. In addition, the sculpture offers a preview of the clear-cut yet emotionally-appealing sculptural form language in the Mercedes-Benz interior design of the future. At the same time it is able to transport the high aesthetic, functional and sensuous aspirations characteristic of a Mercedes-Benz interior, bridging the gap between art and the aesthetics of Mercedes-Benz interior design. It compels the observer to pause for a moment, and challenges, interprets anew that which is already familiar in the vehicle interior, touching both the senses and rational reflection in doing so.

BRABUS Unveils SLS Widestar at Essen Show

Brabus WIDESTAR 01 597x396 BRABUS Unveils SLS Widestar at Essen Show

German tuner BRABUS dropped its latest Mercedes-Benz offering at the Essen Motor Show, showcasing the SLS AMG Widestar which is…well… wide.

The emphasis is really on getting the SLS wider, and sometimes the tuned car appears too wide for comfort. It’s bound to get noticed by people, definitely. But whether they react positively to the car’s appearance is another matter. You do get a lot of BRABUS and Widestar embellishments on the exterior of the car.

In terms of performance, there’s little improvement on top of the base model in this tuned version. Many were disappointed that BRABUS was only able to bump up the power by 10 horsepower. This is after installing an all-new exhaust system and shaving off some weight.

The exhaust system is composed of a quartet of slanted pipes that can be controlled by the driver in order to provide the kind of sound he or she prefers at a given time. On the whole, the SLS Widestar is 1.2 inches lower and has some lift-reducing implements such as a rear diffuser and a rear spoiler.

Of course, prospective buyers do get a wide range (pun intended) of extra stuff, including new alloy wheels under carbon fiber wheel arches. The wheels are larger, and the rear axle has also been widened. As usual, customers can also opt for heavy customization for the interior trims.

Carlsson Super-GT C25 to Appear at Essen Motor Show

CarlssonC25front 597x396 Carlsson Super GT C25 to Appear at Essen Motor ShowThe Mercedes-Benz SL-based Super-GT C25 from German tuner Carlsson is set to wow onlookers once more as it takes the stage at the upcoming Essen Motor Show, which opens this 27th of November and lasts through December 5th. Carlsson is also set to showcase a C63 AMG-based vehicle called the CK63 RS, which is rated at a relatively modest 600 horsepower.

The Carlsson C25 made its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show last March, showcasing its undeniable good looks with custom livery, yet the Mercedes-Benz SL base still shows in the modified exterior. The vehicle sports a 6-liter twin turbo V12 engine rated at a whopping 753 horsepower along with 974 lb.-ft. of torque. With a top speed of 220 mph and a 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) time of 3.7 seconds, the C25 is certainly a beast.

Not only is the C25 powerful, but it is also very exclusive. Only 25 units of the car will be produced, and potential owners will also be able to customize their ride further using a wide range of color combinations for the interior and the exterior of the car. Additionally, the power of the vehicle isn’t meant only for show or to be showcased within the confines of a race track. As Carlsson CEO Markus Schuster stated, the C25 was designed such that owners can still safely use the vehicle for daily transport, such as from one’s home to the workplace.
