The new M-Class: More miles at less cost

Nice guys finish last eh? Apparently not if you’re driving the new generation Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV. With its massive build – five doors, increased length and width, less height, heightened arm and leg space – comes more power. That’s right — more power. With a smaller engine, that is. Even without the old V6 3-liter turbo, the new twin-turbo diesel 2100 inline four powerplant sheds the same output at less cost – roughly two-thirds the fuel economy of the old engine. Greater efficiency comes at a price though. Less of a price, actually. It’s price tag is $10,000 less. You get 44 miles per galon, a 1,450km range out of… Continue Reading »

2012 CLS550 Exterior Styling Stagnates?

Mercedes has long been known as an innovative engineering manufacturer without peer, introducing technologies like anti-lock braking systems, traction control and airbags. Their list of innovations in all areas of automotive systems is as long as your proverbial arm, but they are not really recognized as frontrunners in the styling department. In large part, this was because of Mercedes’s traditional market, which were conservative and upscale luxury car buyers. But new markets dictate new directions and Mercedes has not been known to turn a blind eye to new trends. The first indication of a fresh direction for the company came with the release of the CLS-Class in 2004. This car… Continue Reading »

New A-Class Hatchback In Continuing Development

Mercedes-Benz continues development of the new A-Class hatchback, and even though current spy shots are disappointingly drab, the public has been promised that the concept shown at the Shanghai Auto Show is a good approximation of what the final product will be. The upcoming A-Class is Mercedes’ counter to the BMW 1-series and Audi A3, and it’s clear that the luxury car maker will have to offer a more exciting vehicle to wrest sales from its German rivals. Although the production car still has the show car’s narrow glasshouse and rakish windshield profile, the biggest change for the production A-class is the addition of rear doors. The interior is expected… Continue Reading »

Official: The 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

The third generation of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class sets a new benchmark in the SUV world. Its low fuel consumption and emission figures are especially impressive. Yet for all this efficiency, the M-Class retains its fascination, in the way it uniquely combines agility with driving enjoyment and superior comfort. Further impressive features of the ML include 4MATIC… Continue Reading »

According to Mercedes’ design director, Gorden Wagener, the Vision A concept car is identical to the production version of the new A-Class that will be launched next year. Apart from the fact the the production car will be a five door, other difference will be in changes to the window line, headlights and grille. Otherwise, what you see in the Vision A concept car will essentially be carried over. Wagener has also stated that the show car’s swooping roofline would stay the same, as well as the large display screen seen in the interior. This electronic display is just an indicator that the A-class is likely to have the ability… Continue Reading »
