Mercedes-Benz GL is Motor Trend’s ‘SUV of the Year’

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL is the German automaker’s contender in the luxury SUV segment, and it would seem that the refreshed model for the sleek vehicle this year did not disappoint. This is evidenced by the GL’s citation as Motor Trend magazine’s SUV of the Year. SUVs are still popular vehicle options for many prospective drivers and switchers, and as such, the competition within the segment is still quite strong. Still, Mercedes-Benz was able to field an option held in high regard. To determine which would be the proud recipient of the award, Motor Trend took all the 2013 model year SUVs and rated them according to several criteria: engineering… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz and the Winner of Wimbledon 2012, Roger Federer

Roger Federer has just secured his seventh Wimbledon title, running through Andy Murray to tie a record held by Pete Sampras and showing that the 30-year-old still has what it takes to be on top of the Tennis world (he’s up for the number one ranking after the win). It brings to mind this recent behind-the-scenes video of Federer’s new Mercedes-Benz commercial for the 2013 GL-Class. Federer, being arguably the top star in his sport, also rakes in a ton of revenue from endorsements. He was fourth in the world among Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes last year, having deals with Nike, Rolex, and of course Mercedes-Benz. His deal with… Continue Reading »

Introducing the Mercedes-Benz GLA

Mercedes-Benz is developing a new crossover based on the A-Class platform, and word around cyberspace is that this new model will be named the GLA. Sources have pegged the GLA to be of the same size as the B-Class and should feature Mercedes-Benz’s MFA front-wheel drive platform. There are barely any details out right now, but many experts and sources are envisioning a range of four-cylinder petrols and turbodiesels that are of the same range found in today’s A-Class and B-Class models. This new compact crossover unit should provide Mercedes with an answer to such competitor models as the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1, and even the Range Rover… Continue Reading »

2012 GL63 AMG Spied During Testing

It’s probably because of monsters like these that Mercedes is striving to lift its CAFE numbers with other models. Caught testing in Sweden is Mercedes’, or rather AMG’s GL63 SUV. Based on a modified ML platform, the new model’s nose , though heavily camouflaged, looks to have similiarities to the current E-Class.  As an AMG variant, expect the huge bumper to have gaping air scoops, as well as a quad exhaust out back. That free breathing equipment should produce a sound that would be as menacing as its looks. Although the exact standard safety and luxury features aren’t known yet, what we can expect is the biturbo V8 under the… Continue Reading »

Daytime running lights complement a chrome radiator grill which features the tuner’s logo, on which a leaping horse is etched. 22-inch… Continue Reading »
