2012 AMG C63 Will Leave Competitors In Its Dust

With the release of the 2012 AMG C63 Coupe, Mercedes has shown those pesky boys at BMW and Audi that it has the guts and capability to launch a beastly car that can wipe the smiles off the faces of those M and RS drivers.

At the heart of this brawler is the venerable 6.2 liter engine that made the C63 sedan a favorite of many hardcore enthusiasts. Its throaty growl is quite unlike the whisper-quiet powerplants of other Mercedes cars, advertising to those around it its 450 horsepower. For those thinking of thumbing their nose at that power output, AMG is offering a Development Package which lightens the reciprocating mass by seven pounds and adds 30 more horsepower. 0-60 times are 4.3 seconds with that extra horsepower, although it seems conservative. Nevertheless top speed is now 174 mph with the Development Package, which will add an additional $6,000 to the price of the car. If you can afford the base price in the first place, what’s the little extra to you in exchange for making sure that you leave most cars in the dust? And before you complain that the car doesn’t have a clutch pedal, try the 100 millisecond shifts that result from squeezing the steering paddles all the way to 7th gear.

As befits the car’s hardcore character, shocks, springs and bushings have been recalibrated and the brake system has been upgraded to ensure the balance necessary for going as well as stopping.

C63 AMG Coupe Is The Big Brother Of The New C-Class

While the C350 coupe is a highly competent car that will dish out acceptable performance, it is its evil twin, the C63 AMG that will make owners of competing cars quake in their driving shoes. This mutation gives lucky buyers a 6.3-liter mill that puts out 487 horsepower in a medium-sized bodyshell.  The power-to-weight ratio resulting from this unholy alliance should give even the most jaded driver a grin on his face.

As a sleeper car, the 4-door C63 AMG was a perennial favorite to blow the doors off unsuspecting wannabes, while carrying a couple of friends along. However, the new C-Class’ lines are too beautiful to be ignored and a big displacement engine in a small body has long been a tried and proven formula to automotive performance bliss. In this regard, the C63 AMG coupe truly fits the bill.

Drive & Seek campaign for the C-Class

C Klasse Coupe brings more style per hour1 597x396 Drive & Seek campaign for the C Class

The C-Class is undoubtedly the king of Mercedes-Benz dealerships, with admirable sales figures that cut across all markets worldwide. The company is not oblivious to that fact, and that’s why it has decided to launch a one-of-a-kind interactive campaign to strike the C-Class’ popularity up several notches.

Vice President of Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars Anders Sundt couldn’t have said it better himself – “The C-Class Coupe campaign does a wonderful job reflecting the identity of the vehicle – agility and design. In addition to current Mercedes-Benz drivers, with the C-Coupe we are particularly aiming for a new, younger target group, hence the modern campaign approach.”

We’d love for the elders to prove him wrong on that point. Are youngsters the only ones who know how to get information about their favorite premium vehicle manufacturer online? Meanwhile, the new campaign project promises to be a blast with all moving picture content for the Internet and print, radio and television being incorporated into one very comprehensive film production. As a matter of fact, filming locations have been set in Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa.

You’ll find the web video here, while there are also several online projects such as banner ads, iPhone and iPad apps as well as on other social media channels. Check out the video guys. And tell us what you think.
