How Mercedes-Benz’s high-end status affects sales of Sprinter vans in the US

Mercedes-Benz is a well-known luxury brand, and while the established brand name–as well as all the other stuff that comes with it–works well for marketing its passenger vehicles, it could sometimes present a problem for other areas of the automaker’s business. Take the Sprinter van, for example. The Sprinter is one of the best-selling commercial vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, and it is seen as the go-to model for growing the commercial vehicles aspect of the company’s business in markets outside Germany and Europe. In the United States, though, sales are hampered by the brand’s high-end reputation. While Mercedes-Benz has been keen on introducing more affordable compact variants of its cars, like… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz posts best-ever monthly, Q1 sales

Momentum is everything, and Mercedes-Benz is capitalizing on its surge. March 2014 saw Mercedes-Benz sell the most cars in its history. With a whopping 158,523 vehicles sold last month, the German automaker is on track to reach its goal of global market leadership. The record figure represents a 13.3 percent growth, and that puts Mercedes-Benz’s year-to-date vehicle sales at 374,276, which is a 15.2 percent increase over the same period last year. That makes it Mercedes-Benz’s strongest first quarter ever. Sales were powered by double-digit growth in key markets, such as 11.2 percent in the United States and 30.9 percent growth in the Asia/Pacific region.  There was also a considerable… Continue Reading »

Mercedes’ Hamilton prevails in duel with Rosberg at the 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix

One second was the difference between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in a duel of the two Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 drivers at the 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix. It looks increasingly likely that we will see more of this head-to-head battle between the two teammates, but Mercedes has to be happy with the team’s second one-two finish in as many races. The win catapulted Mercedes into a 67-point lead at the top of the constructor’s championship, with Force India second and McLaren third. Sergio Perez took the third podium spot, finishing 23 seconds behind Rosberg. “I was on a real knife edge at the end,” said Hamilton after the race…. Continue Reading »

Fans of collectible miniature car models can now add the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class to their collections, with all-new hand-assembled 1:18, 1:43, and 1:87 scale die-cast models now available from select Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Germany and, soon, in other markets. With the C-Class being showcased in showrooms across Germany together with the GLA-Class, there were more than 300,000 visitors in just March’s second weekend, with some 6,000 test drives being conducted. So now, if you’ve got a taste of the C-Class but aren’t really in the market for a new drive, then you might want to content yourself with a collectible car model. Once again, Mercedes-Benz turns to Norev, a specialist… Continue Reading »

Hamilton wins Malaysian GP; Rosberg second for Mercedes one-two finish

This is how dominant Mercedes AMG Petronas could be this season. In a true show of force, Lewis Hamilton dominated the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix and Nico Rosberg came in at second place to secure the first one-two finish for the team this season, and at one of their home races at that. Hamilton was on point the entire race, winning it by a whopping 17.3 seconds ahead of his teammate. He has never won this event in his years as a Formula One driver, so bagging the title at the Sepang International Circuit today was quite an accomplishment for the former world champion.
