Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet Spy Shots

Out of the recent wave of Mercedes-Benz spy shots we’ve seen, perhaps none would tickle many an enthusiast’s fancy more than this latest one: a fresh, very much camouflaged S-Class Cabriolet spotted testing in the wild. The spy shots hail from the land of the automaker itself, straight out of Germany, and by the looks of it, it’s pretty much a four-seater design. Apart from the car being heavily clad, the shot is also obscured by unflattering lighting, so it’s hard to discern more details at this point. There’s also a more daytime shot featuring a front view of the car. Still, the design is looking pretty sleek and… Continue Reading »

Is Daimler spinning off its Mercedes-Benz dealerships?

In a bid to improve its profitability, Daimler could sell some of its Mercedes-Benz dealerships in Germany and keeping the rest of the dealerships it owns in a separate entity. The Daimler management board reportedly isn’t satisfied with the ‘maximum margin of 2 percent’, as stated by a representative of the IG Metall labor group, which plans to hold a rally on the 28th of April due to the breaking down of negotiations regarding the preservation of jobs for those on the retail side of the Mercedes-Benz dealerships. The rally will be held at the Stuttgart headquarters of Daimler AG. Of course, it’s only natural to expect this new approach… Continue Reading »

Daimler-BYD’s DENZA EV officially unveiled at Auto China 2014

The highly anticipated product of the Daimler-BYD joint venture finally got its world premiere. At the Auto China 2014 event, BYD Daimler New Technology showcased the production model of its pet project, an electric vehicle developed specifically for the Chinese market. BDNT expects the first unit of the DENZA automobile to be available by September 2014. The car is priced at RMB369,000, or around $59,250. Of course, BDNT aims to make the deal more enticing for those on the fence by throwing in considerable subsidies that reach a total of nearly RMB120,000, which is going to be shaved off the price of the vehicle straight away. BDNT, established in 2010,… Continue Reading »

Daimler denies investment in Tesla ‘giga-factory’

Tesla Motors is planning a $5 billion battery ‘gigafactory’, but Daimler – the parent company of Mercedes-Benz and owner of a small stake in the electric car maker – is not going to invest in this newly proposed concept. That was confirmed by Daimler chief Dr Dieter Zetsche after speaking to reporters at the Beijing Auto Show. According to the exec, it is simply due to timing, saying that nobody knows what or when the next-generation of battery technology will be. He added that it was too late to invest in lithium-ion battery technology, and still too early to invest in the next generation given all of the unknowns at… Continue Reading »

2014 Chinese Grand Prix – Hamilton takes pole; Rosberg in second row

It’s not the team’s best qualifying session so far in this young Formula One season, but Mercedes AMG Petronas will definitely take a pole position for Lewis Hamilton and a P4 start for Nico Rosberg, especially during a fairly wet and contested qualifying round at the 2014 Chinese Grand Prix. This markes Hamilton’s eighth pole position as a member of the Mercedes F1 team, but more importantly, it was his 34th overall pole, giving him the all-time record for a British driver. With wet conditions to start with, the Mercedes drivers went out on their wet tyres off the bat in Q1, with the intermediates being used for the next… Continue Reading »
