Mercedes to roll out all-hybrid S-Class line in America in 2012

Sources close to Mercedes insiders say the new breed of S-Class cars will go totally hybrid in America come 2012. Additionally, it appears that the German carmaker won’t be offering any regular S-Class models in the US market after this hybrid debut. Although there are talks that Daimler’s board still needs to sign on to the plan, insiders say that it’s just a matter of time before they do because the growing demand for the S400 hybrid car among California’s green-thinking elite is a pretty convincing argument to going all-hybrid in America. The S400 hybrid, with its gasoline-electric flexibility, is the only green S-Class alternative in the US today. It… Continue Reading »

Mercedes gearing up for an SLR Stirling Moss ad starring Mika Hakkinen

Seems like Mercedes-Benz is coming up with a new ad for its very exclusive, very rare SLR Stirling Moss Edition. Seen in the streets of Barcelona was two-time Formula One Drivers’ Championship winner Mika Hakkinen sitting behind the wheels of the elite Mercedes vehicle. Hakkinen, who once spent time with Mercedes’ McLaren and despite his retirement, remains involved with Mercedes in an undisclosed role. Hakkinen is one lucky guy to be driving the Stirling Moss for this commercial (possibly while another one’s sitting in his garage at home). Mercedes only crafted 75 of these SLRs and its pricey tag of over one million US dollars could be quite steep for… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Benz delivers the 2.5 millionth compact car

It looks like Mercedes-Benz’s A-Class and B-Class compact car segments are making a killing in the market. According to the carmaker, they have just delivered compact car number 2,500,000 this month, marking a production milestone in the manufacturer’s car-making history. With the increase in sales, Mercedes Benz is looking into including two more models in its compact car division by the end of 2011. Already, the premium vehicle maker is pouring in about 800 million US dollars in their manufacturing plant in Rasttat, Germany to keep up with the projected increase in demand. Another manufacturing site in Hungary, this time in Keckskemet, is also being planned with a little over… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz says high performing B-Class to debut in 2012

There’s a new class of smaller Mercedes-Benz cars coming to the US in 2012. Americans will soon see the B-Class, presently being offered in the hatchback model, on its roads showing off its new variants—a roadster, coupe, and sedan. AMG, Mercedes’ upgrade specialist, says there’s more to these new-generation compact cars with the imminent debut on the market of a high-performing modification. Volker Mornhinweg, AMG’s outgoing top honcho, says the B-class will receive a new four-cylinder fine tune, made especially for the line. Mercedes designed it to give such other cars in its class as the Audi S3 and the Volkswagen Golf R32 a run for their money. There are… Continue Reading »

New Mercedes-Benz SL design builds on current siblings

Still on stealth testing mode in the frigid Scandinavian weather, the next generation of Mercedes-Benz SL-Class will show an extended hood and a wider carriage. This wide look is mirrored in the tail lights, in its flattened form, stretched to appear broader, and in the lenses which now have nice rounded style elements rather than its usual level, horizontal design. Although the new SL prototype is heavily masked, the updates seem to have erect grilles, projector headlights, and exterior mirrors that has been repositioned. There are indications, too, that the interiors will be sporting a wider, GPS screen resting higher up on the dashboard. Benz watchers say this update is… Continue Reading »

Maybach to get a facelift before it retires?!?

Reports coming from Mercedes Benz insiders in the UK claim that the Maybach division of luxury sedans is set for retirement soon. But before the line is discontinued, the Maybach 62, 57, and Landaulet models will get minor improvements, mostly focused on its front grilles and a change to LED lights. The image above is one of a few photo that were leaked on to the internet showing the facelift. The updates will be seen in the upcoming Beijing Motor Show in April this year. Because of the current recession and the challenging economy worldwide since its rebirth in 2002, Maybach sales have continued to dive. Also, the subsidiary is… Continue Reading »

Train cars full of Mercedes-Benz vehicles catch fire in Georgia

Two train cars, ferrying Mercedes-Benz automobiles from its manufacturing plant in Vance, Alabama, caught fire in Glynn Country, Georgia yesterday afternoon. A county spokesperson said the fire started at 2:30 p.m. and lasted until 4:00 in the afternoon. Firefighters were hampered by the fact that the fire happened in the midst of the marsh on the rail trestle headed towards the shipping terminal in Colonel Island. Fire officials had to connect the hoses of the pumper trucks from a long way away for the water to get to the fire site. Additionally, the tracks were so warped from the intense heat that railroad officials and firefighters were unable to disconnect… Continue Reading »
