Brabus Monoblock light-alloy wheels are amongst the most popular aftermarket wheels for owners of Mercedes-Benz and Maybach. Not only do they differentiate themselves with exclusive designs and top quality, but with a series of new Monoblocks, they give customers a variety of options to customize their favorite Benz. The Brabus Monoblock F, G and Q Wheels are not just visually appealing, but are built with quality material and state-of-the-art technology.

Monoblock F – the name stands for the new sporty Brabus platinum edition forged wheels with a diameter of 21 inches. The design features offset cross spokes that extend all the way to the outer flange of the rim, making them appear even larger than they already are. Another new forged wheel in the Brabus program is the Brabus Monoblock G wheel. Five striking double-spokes that extend all the way to the outer flange and a novel finish in a combination of titanium-look matte anthracite-colored paint and polished surfaces. State-of-the-art casting technology and four coats of paint in OEM quality characterize the new Brabus Monoblock Q wheels, available in diameters ranging from 18 to 22 inches.

dieter zetsche dr z 540x291 Reducing work hours and pay to safeguard employment at Daimler AG
The management and the Employee Council of Daimler AG have agreed on a package of measures to be taken to reduce labor costs, so that they can safeguard employment at Daimler AG manufacturing plants. The key points of the agreement are the reduction in working time for employees who are not included in short-time working arrangements, a reduction in the allowance paid towards the short-time compensation and the postponement by five months of the upcoming wage-tariff increase.

As a result of these measures and of other measures previously decided upon, the labor costs of Daimler AG will be reduced by $2.7 billion in the current difficult economic situation. The measures include actions to reduce costs and to avoid increased expenditure.

In return, it has been agreed that all employees will be protected against termination of employment for reason of business operations for the duration of the company-wide agreement from May 1, 2009 until June 30, 2010. The company-wide agreement can be terminated as of December 31, 2009 at the earliest, depending on the economic situation. Also after the termination of the agreement, the shared goal is to safeguard employment at the company.

Mercedes-Benz SLR Gets Hit With The Ugly Stick

If you thought that the gold-wrapped Mercedes-Benz SLR was ridiculous, then you’ll love the Anliker McLaren SLR 999 Red Gold Dream. This thing, which was once an Mclaren-Mercedes SLR, was created by Swiss tuning firm Ueli Anliker Design for a client in, yes you guessed it – Dubai. I honestly have no words for this thing, not only is it a sucky tuning job, but the red with the gold plated interior and wheels is a horrible combination. I dare you to look at it more than 10 seconds and not get the urge to puke. Another tip of the hat to the guys in Dubai, you sure have great taste in tuned cars.

Mercedes-Benz F-CELL Roadster on the historic route of Bertha Benz

The F-CELL Roadster built by apprentices at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen covered a section of the historic route taken by Bertha Benz on the past weekend. Starting in Mannheim, the fuel cell powered car was driven via Ladenburg and Heidelberg. The symbolic passing of the finish line was at the chemist’s shop in Wiesloch, where Bertha Benz stopped to refuel during the first long-distance journey in automobile history in 1888.

“This trip by the F-CELL Roadster is symbolic of the current change taking place in automobile engineering”, says Dr. Thomas Weber. “At that time Bertha Benz was not yet able to purchase the petrol she needed at a filling station, and for emission-free mobility we are also dependent on the widespread distribution of fuels for the future – electric power and hydrogen. But just as Bertha Benz refused to be discouraged by inconveniences in her day, we are just as determined to help ensure that these technologies achieve their breakthrough.”

Before the end of this year, Mercedes-Benz will commence small-series production of the B-Class with a fuel cell drive system. At the end of 2009 the first examples of the smart fortwo electric drive model will also leave the production line to enter service in the “e-mobility Berlin” project early next year.

Daimler posts EBIT of minus $1.852 billion in first quarter of 2009

daimler logo daimler ag logo 535x111 Daimler posts EBIT of minus $1.852 billion in first quarter of 2009
The global financial and economic crisis and the resulting difficult automotive markets placed a significant burden on the earnings of the Daimler Group in the first quarter of 2009. Daimler posted EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) of minus €1,426 million ($1.852 billion) for the first quarter of 2009 (Q1 2008: plus €1,976 million or $2.567 billion).

The significant decline in earnings primarily reflects the sharp drops in unit sales at Mercedes-Benz Cars, Daimler Trucks and Mercedes-Benz Vans in the first quarter of 2009. The measures already taken mitigated the decline in earnings, but were far from sufficient to compensate for the effect of the decrease in Group revenue related to lower unit sales. Increased cost of risk at Daimler Financial Services led to a fall in that division’s operating results.
