Mercedes-Benz Self-Driving Car: How Far Have They Gone?

The race continues in the bid to produce the world’s first fully-autonomous car. At the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche revealed several updates about their Mercedes-Benz self-driving car project. Two days ago, Zetsche announced that they will start the test drive of the vehicle equipped with their autonomous driving technology. The program is called the “Intelligent World Drive”. The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class saloon will be used as their test mule. The testing will run until January 2018, which is just in time for the CES event of that year. New Mercedes-Benz S-Class Production Begins

Yesterday, July 3, the production of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class officially started. The car is being assembled in the Sindelfingen plant of the three-pointed star marque. Marking the start of the event was the pilot test for the automated driving feature of the range. An obsidian black metallic-painted Mercedes-Benz S560 4MATIC showcased the feature. The car drove automatically without a driver seating in its cockpit. Onboard cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors working under a powerful software that enables the S-Class to accelerate and brake autonomously aided the car in reaching its destination. The last time we saw a video of the Mercedes-Benz self-driving truck in action, it was during its unveiling. But its testing was only limited within its maker’s driving facility, and the only vehicles you can see along its way are its fellow three-pointed star branded autos. A few days ago, it was finally unleashed on the highway with actual traffic.
