Mercedes-Benz SSK Booked for 2013 ‘Elephant Race’ at Nurburgring

Mercedes-Benz Classic is set to field the 225hp Mercedes-Benz SSK at the 2013 ‘Elephant Race’, which will be held as part of the ADAC Eifel Race that runs from June 14 through 16. Jochen Mass will be the one at the helm, competing for the Jan Wellem Cup. This participation is meant to commemorate Rudolf Caracciola’s win in 1927. Caracciola, driving a Mercedes-Benz S, helped score a double win with Adolf Rosenberger. The SSK stands for ‘super-sport-kurz’, as a way of showing the evolution from the Mercedes-Benz S. Mercedes-Benz Wins Five Awards At The Motor Klassik Award 2013

A number of luxury vehicles from Mercedes-Benz recently triumphed in five categories at the Motor Klassik Award 2013. The Mercedes-Benz Classic head, Michael Bock, said that the three historic and two current models of Mercedes-Benz won in different categories at the awards given by the classic car magazine. The votes were made by the readers of the Motor Klassik magazine in the contest that included current car models aside from classic cars. The Mercedes-Benz SSK won the “Classics up to 1930” category. The six-cylinder compressor sports car is a stimulating and unique model in the well-known S Series of Mercedes-Benz. SSK stands for Super Sports Short or Super-Sport-Kurz. Mercedes-Benz Headlines 2012 Mille Miglia

A group of 25 SLR. CLUB members, all with their precious SLR vehicles, took the road on May 16th to participate in the Mille Miglia in Rome, which covers a specified route starting from Brescia then Rome then back to the start to cover 1,000 miles (hence the name). The Mille Miglia is a traditional Italian race from way back in 1927. It was held annually until 1957 and then resurfaced in 1977. This year’s race features a parade of classic cars, a field with a total of 382 competitors—including these 25 SLR owners—that will pass through Italy’s famed cities of Bologna, Florence, and Verona.
