Videos Show the Resiliency of the Smart Fortwo

One of the key selling points of the Smart Fortwo is its ultra-durable tridion safety cell. Basically, the feature has been patented by Daimler’s Smart division to offer maximum protection to the electric vehicle’s occupants, which comes in addition to the safety functions provided by the car’s seatbelts and airbags. According to the Smart website, the tridion safety cell is inspired by roll cages found in racecars. It is made of high-strength steel, which is engineered to evenly distribute the force from a crash. To demonstrate how the safety frame of the Smart Fortwo can hold up to a real-life collision on the road, Daimler recently released several videos that involve crashing… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet Spy Shots

Out of the recent wave of Mercedes-Benz spy shots we’ve seen, perhaps none would tickle many an enthusiast’s fancy more than this latest one: a fresh, very much camouflaged S-Class Cabriolet spotted testing in the wild. The spy shots hail from the land of the automaker itself, straight out of Germany, and by the looks of it, it’s pretty much a four-seater design. Apart from the car being heavily clad, the shot is also obscured by unflattering lighting, so it’s hard to discern more details at this point. There’s also a more daytime shot featuring a front view of the car. Still, the design is looking pretty sleek and… Continue Reading »

2021 Mercedes-Benz U-Class Concept Proposed by a Design Student

Since Daimler killed its ultra-luxury brand Maybach, there’s no longer a car that could be considered more prestigious than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. That means customers who want a car more elite than the S-Class will just have to settle with other brands like BMW and Volkswagen for the Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The solution that Daimler has to cater to the upper echelon of the luxury car segment is its S-Class Maybach Edition, which has a longer wheelbase than the S-Class long wheelbase version. Then, there’s  also the more enormous Pullman variant. Aside from these, the parent of Mercedes-Benz no longer has a specific brand or class that would only answer… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz India Considers Local Assembly of S 500

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the top dog in the German automaker’s product offering, and as such, it does not come cheap. In India, for example, the new S 500 sold for Rs. 1.58 crore (a crore is 10 million), which is equivalent to a shade under $250,000. Still, the 125 units of the Launch Edition, imported straight from Germany, were all sold out. With this kind of demand for the high-end Mercedes, MB India is now considering assembling S 500 units locally. Current plans for local production only involve the base model S 350 (diesel variant), which has been delayed so far and should now be due for sale in… Continue Reading »
