Mercedes-Benz Aksaray plant reaches 200,000-truck milestone

We love manufacturing plant milestones, and the latest one’s just in for Mercedes-Benz as the Aksaray, Turkey plant just rolled the 200,000th truck off its assembly lines. The milestone was graced by the presence of Dr Wolfgang Bernhard along with other top executives of Mercedes-Benz Trucks. Mercedes-Benz Trucks chief Stefan Buchner noted the key role that the Aksaray facility plays in Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ production network. After all, there were 17,000 units sold by Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Turkey last year, and the country is the third-biggest truck market for the brand, surpassed only by Brazil and Germany. The plant has been making trucks since 1986, and since then, Mercedes-Benz has invested some €310 million… Continue Reading »

What the Hell is This Mercedes-Benz Ad All About

The YouTube channel of Mercedes-Benz Vans uploaded a new ad for the Vito last October 2. The title of the video was “Dirty Driving”. If you think that the Mario Kart 8-themed ad of the Mercedes-Benz GLA was hideous enough, this ad would probably top it off in terms of weirdness. While I had so much respect and admiration to the marketing division of the three-pointed star brand for bringing up awesome ads, this is just another proof that they are only human and they can also have their epic-fail moments. First, this Mercedes-Benz ad is just overly nostalgic, having to feature an 80’s song from a movie hit that even most people at their… Continue Reading »

Guess who just turned 50? In a huge anniversary gathering, Mercedes-Benz Trucks celebrated the 50th year of production in its Wörth plant, to commemorate the first units straight out of the assembly line on October 1st back in 1963. Around 300 guests were present in the celebration. The guests included Mercedes-Benz personnel as well as some figures within the industry as well as in politics. You have Dr Dieter Zetsche, of course, in his capacity as Daimler CEO. Daimler Trucks and Daimler Buses chief Dr Wolfgang Bernhard was also on hand, as was Mercedes-Benz Trucks head Stefan Buchner. Dr Zetsche talked about the ‘Spirit of Wörth’, which basically has three elements: innovation,… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil Reaches 2-Million-Unit Milestone for Commercial Vehicle Production

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil has just completed its two-millionth locally-made commercial vehicle, a milestone achieved in 57 years. That figure is comprised of some 1.4 million trucks along with 600,000 buses and chassis. According to Mercedes-Benz Trucks Europe and Latin America chief Stefan Buchner, Daimler Trucks’ operations in Brazil started “way before the country was considered an up-and-coming economy.” He added that Brazil is currently among the brand’s vital truck markets. That is, of course, not just in sales but also in production, as underscored by the 2-million-unit milestone. With around €540 million invested between 2010 and 2013, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil was able to prepare for some considerable growth. With new engine… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz Dubs Euro VI-Compliant Truck Line the ‘A-Team’

In a recent media article, Mercedes-Benz referred to its new Euro VI-compliant heavy-duty truck line as the ‘A-Team’, which actually started in 2011. After continued refinements and constant development, the three truck models, the Actros, Antos, and Arocs (pictured), are now fully compliant with the emissions standard. That’s something that Daimler and Mercedes-Benz Trucks is counting on to further grow its Europe-leading 23 percent market share in 2012. Whether the ‘A-Team’ refers to the fact that the names of the trucks all start with an ‘A’ or to the fictional group of soldiers of fortune featured in a Mr. T-bannered TV series in the mid-80’s and in a 2010 film… Continue Reading »
