Facelifted 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Spied During Road Testing

Giancarlo Perlas May 10, 2023

There are several variants of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class prototypes going around recently. There’s the electrified version referred to as the Mercedes-Benz EQG and there’s also the facelifted unit shown in the spy video here. The refreshed model of the iconic SUV is expected to debut within this year as a 2024 model-year unit.

Expected Updates on the Refreshed Mercedes-Benz G-Class

The prototype caught on cam by walkoARTvideos is only partially covered in zebra camouflage, so the wrapped areas are where we will expect the key updates for the upcoming G-Class model. From the looks of it, the changes will only be minimal, which will likely include the bumpers plus some special graphics in front and at the rear areas.

The interior is where most of the updates will likely be focused though. Although we can’t see them in the spy video here, it might benefit from bigger screens similar to those found in the S-Class, SL, and C-Class. The present G-Class is currently the only Mercedes without the MBUX infotainment system, so this may be integrated into the tech of the refreshed model.

Powertrain Upgrades

No key upgrades are anticipated in the facelifted G-Class, although the possibility of incorporating some form of electric power is possible. If this is the case, the Mercedes-AMG G63, which presently carries a 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque that’s paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, may receive some form of a mild-hybrid electric boost to raise its performance and enhance its fuel economy.

Launch of the Facelifted Mercedes-Benz G-Class

The facelifted Mercedes-Benz G-Class is expected to debut within the second half of 2023 as a 2024 model-year unit. The EV version for its next-generation series or under the EQG range will follow probably by next year as a 2025 model-year vehicle.
