Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster Overtakes the Power of the Black Series

Giancarlo Perlas August 8, 2021

When it comes to the aftermarket tuning scene, we already know by now that Posaidon does not take things lightly. Take for instance this Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster that the company recently unveiled with a power surpassing the Black Series, which is known as the king of Nurburgring in the production car segment.

Posaidon’s work usually focuses on the performance aspect of Mercedes cars. Therefore, it generally leaves out the flashy accessories in favor of the power upgrades. In many cases, the specialist only adds a subtle enhancement on the wheels, exhausts, and suspension.

The AMG GT R here may not look different from its fresh-from-the-factory version, but underneath its hood tells a different story. The car comes with the same handcrafted M178 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. However, the RS 830+ package of the tuner raises the stakes at 880 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque through an ECU tweak combined with new ball-bearing turbochargers, forged piston, high-performance spark plugs, forged pistons, fuel pumps, high-flow air filters, and exhaust manifolds with bigger downpipes and sports catalytic converters. That’s 150 hp more than the output of the Black Series.

Overall, the configuration takes the AMG GT R from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the speed limiter of the auto is adjusted to kick off at 223 mph.

For some buyers who find the 880 hp package too excessive for their liking, Posaidon also offers other options that bring the output of the Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster to 670 hp, 780 hp, and 830 hp levels.
