Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Attempts to Break Its Own Record in the ‘Ring

Giancarlo Perlas July 10, 2021

In November 2020, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series officially became the fastest production car on the Nurburgring Nordschleife with a time of 6:48.047 for the whole course, and 6:43.616 on its old 12.8-mile stretch. Recently, another attempt was made by the same car but with a different driver to break the record.

Before the latest record attempt of the current Black Series, it was eclipsed by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS last month with a new record of 6:43.300 for a street-legal car on the 12.9-mile layout of the ‘Ring, which was quicker than the sports car’s best time. However, the Porsche was actually modified by Manthey Racing, so the Merc is still officially the fastest production car to conquer the circuit.

During the latest run of the AMG GT Black Series in the ‘Ring, the one behind the steering wheel was Sport Auto’s test driver Christian Gebhardt. Unfortunately, he came up short by four seconds compared to the official record held by the car with a time of 6:52.54.

Despite that, it was worth noting that he was able to conquer the corners with his amazing driving skills. The video even showed him reaching up to 195 mph in bends while getting up to 202 mph in the long straights.

The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series also displayed how it can go easily from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. That’s thanks to the auto’s powerful 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 720 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that’s hooked to a rear-wheel-drive system.
