Mercedes-AMG EQS Spied During Road Testing

Giancarlo Perlas May 19, 2021

Before the launch of the EQS, Mercedes-Benz already laid out its plan about offering an AMG variant for it. Recent spy shots confirm that the company is indeed working on the high-performance model of the electric vehicle, which will become the Mercedes-AMG EQS.

The new spy photos of Motor1 reveal what appears to be the AMG trim of the EQS. Thanks to the very minimal camouflage of the EV, the exposed areas show that it carries over almost all the key styling elements of its Benz counterpart. Although it is hard to see in the images, the source claims that the auto is sporting carbon-ceramic brakes and yellow brake calipers bearing the AMG mark, which further confirms the position of the product in the EQS hierarchy.

As always, the wrapped portions of the car’s body hint where the modifications will take place. A closer inspection reveals that the liftback’s rear spoiler, front grille, and parts of its bumpers are concealed. Currently, AMG models are defined by their distinct Panamericana front grille design with vertical slats so it would be exciting to see what the high-performance division of Mercedes has in store for the closed grille of the EQS.

We have no idea yet about the powertrain of the spied EV, but as a reminder, the most potent version of the range is the EQS 580 4MATIC. It already has an output of 516 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque with an acceleration time of 4.3 seconds from 0 to 62 mph. From those numbers, expect a major power boost when it comes to the Mercedes-AMG EQS as it is rumored to get at least 600 hp.
