Mercedes-Benz Reaches 50-Millionth Production Milestone

Giancarlo Perlas February 14, 2021

Mercedes-Benz is celebrating another milestone this February as it just rolled out its 50-millionth passenger car from its production line. The unit that hit the mark happened to be a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class that was produced from the company’s Factory 56 at its Sindelfingen plant in Germany. The figures already include the units produced under the smart banner.

“Mercedes-Benz has always been synonymous with luxury. That’s why I’m very proud of this very special production anniversary: Fifty million vehicles produced is a significant milestone in the history of our company, and an exceptional achievement by the team. I would like to thank the colleagues in the plants around the world for their work and their commitment. Their expertise and passion in the production of our stars make the wishes of customers all over the world come true day after day,” said Jörg Burzer, member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG, Production and Supply Chain.

The Mercedes-Maybach S580 pictured here is the 50-millionth car of the company. It comes with a two-tone black and silver exterior finish. The ultra-luxurious auto is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a mild-hybrid system that brings its total output to 496 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Currently, the Maybach S-Class has a starting price of $173,000, so the special edition model should be somewhere north of that.

During the event, the automaker also reiterated its focus on the electrification of its vehicles. The three-pointed star marque is looking to integrate at least six EQ models going to 2022.
